If a student does not have the proper perspective about the various religions of the world, then when it comes to learning world history, they won't get it right; and when they get in science class and some student brings up the evolution/creation debate, they aren't going to be prepared to handle it; and when they are sitting through the U.S. Constitution class, they will have a faulty appreciation for the Bill of Rights lessons. The sad truth is that the reality in the public schools is you have many high school students because the have no church, and because they have no parents of any real religious conviction of any kind have no way of learning even the most basic facts about religion and its very influental role in modern society, not only in the U.s but globally. Without that knowledge, other studies are hindered and the net result is that the government/public who has taken up the responsibility of educating the children for their adult life will have failed to fuflill that responsibility - just because they are afraid of controversy. I think that is very sad and avoidable.

    Ron,

The problem is your assumption that because they are required to take a religion class in the Public School, they will then have a proper, unbiased, understanding of all those things. That assumption is incorrect, and in many cases, you could have atheists and occultists teaching those classes. I don't want my child being brainwashed with that perspective. The child should learn about religion at home or at Church, or with parent's permission in a volunteer class at school.

I've got to agree with Joseph on this one...too much potential for abuse with a religion class in public school. But to reiterate my point...privatize all education.

I agree. And, to make it work, all Churches should fund the tuition for those who are poor or middle class as a ministry of the Church. Problem is, most Churches these days are too stingy and selfish to do something like that. What a shame. I guess we still need public schools for all the poor folk who can't afford private school, which means we create a society where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

America was founded upon Christian morals and values. George Washington said, 'One cannot rightly rule a government without God'.

We need to return to the old paths. Get christian leaders in our schools and in our senate.
