This thread is about a court case. Please do NOT discuss if Santa should be allowed or not.

A lady was sponsoring a Christmas party. The man who would be doing the work told the woman that she should include Hananaka (sp) and Kwanzaa - so the woman resultantly agreed. Then on the day of the event- Santa showed. The women told Santa to go home. Because he was Black. Thus she refused to pay the $1500 fee. In Court, the lady stated that Santa is white. (I assumed the vast majority - i not all the children were white). The refuted that the women never said she only wanted a white Santa. The judge did rule for the woman stating that as a businessman - it is his responsibility to please the customer - and that he should have informed the woman he was going to supply a Black Santa.
As far as the payment - the judge rule that the woman should only have to pay $750 - which was 1/2 of the original $1500.

So what are your thoughts about the decision of the judge?

Here's an option for you, Salty:

Zwarte Piet "is a 'Black Face' character...a companion of Saint Nicholas (Dutch 'Sinterklaas')...in the Netherlands and Flanders"

"Children are taught to believe that...Zwarte Piet is a Moorish servant or slave accompanying Saint Nicholas on his holiday travels. He is commonly depicted in colorful pantaloons, a feathered cap, and ruffles, as a medieval European palace attendant, and is sometimes associated with Satan."

"parents tell their children that if they have been good, Zwarte Piet will bring gifts and sweets for Christmas, but if they have been bad, Piet will scoop them up, stuff them in his huge sack, and spirit them away to Spain."

I can see it both ways. Given that the man doing the work wanted the event inclusive of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa I would be suspicious of motive. On the other hand Saint Nicholas was not Whiite.

But ultimately I agree with the judge.

The reason is a norm for Santa's features have been established in the US. I think it is reasonable when paying for a Santa for a party the character represents the norm unless otherwise requested.

Zwarte Piet..."Black Pete" traditionally a white person in black face and an afro.....
......not cool. IMO

I find the decision contradictory. Why make her pay 1/2 the fee ($750 instead of $1500)?

Either it’s “all right” or it’s “all wrong”.

Since she’s doing a Kwanzaa celebration along with the event, I see no problem with a black Santa.

If you are merging 3 celebrations into one, you must expect some crossover.

Peace to you
