WHO IS THE SON OF GOD?

WHO IS THE SON OF GOD?

In order to make more clear for Jews, Who the Son of GOD really is, Paul announced that the Son is the Radiance of His Father and of His glory, and Exact Representation of His Father's Nature. In other words, 100% Copy of His Father's Image in everything, in Form and in Spirit. It is similar to that if we look at the mirror and see our own image, and whatever we think, and whatever we say, and whatever we do at this moment, our own image reproduces it immediately. Now imagine, if you make your own image alive, with all physical, intellectual, and spiritual attributes you have, this will be the perfect clone of your own being in everything you consist of, with the same form, with the same thoughts, with and the same mind, and with the same spirit.

This means that whatever you think, your clone things the same, and whatever you said the clone said the same, and whatever you do, the clone does the same as your own mirror image. The Jesus Christ is the same mirror Image of His Father GOD and contains everything the same as His Father contains, all the Spiritual and Intellectual Attributes. Both of Them have the same thoughts and the same Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1.26-27, 5.1, 9.6) (1Corinthians 11.7-10) (2Corinthians 4.4) (Ephesians 4.24) (Colossians 1.15, 3.9-10) (Hebrews 1.3).

In verse 5 Paul continue this theme and asked a question, "To which of the angels did He (Father) ever say, 'You are My Son, today I have begotten You.' And again, 'I will be a Father to Him, and He shall be a Son to Me.' (Psalm 2.7) (Isaiah 42.1) (Matthew 3.17, 12.18, 17.5) (Mark 9.7) (Luke 9.35) (Acts 13.33) (Hebrews 1.5, 5.5).

In verse 6 Paul also stated about Christ that He is the First-Born of His Father, indicating by this that Christ is the First Born before all other creations came to be, and He, the GOD Father brought His First-Born Son into the world. Jews are very well aware of it, they know the Scripture and all the prophets who prophesied about Christ, and there is no argument about it.

Similar to these statements Paul also reveals in the following verses, pointing to the Son of GOD as the Messiah, on Whom the Jews place their hope.

In verse 9 Paul described character of the Son of GOD, mentioning that He loves righteousness and hated lawlessness, and His GOD Father anointed Him with the oil of gladness (Isaiah 61.1-3) (Psalm 45.6-7) (John 3.34) (Philippians 2.9-11). Jesus Himself number of times called His Father as His GOD, pointing that He is the Son Who subordinate and obedient to His Father always.

My GOD your GOD: (Psalm 45.7) (Micah 5.4) (John 20.17) (1Corinthians 11.3) (2Corinthians 11.31) (Ephesians 1.3) (Hebrews 1.9) (Revelation 1.6, 3.2.12, 5.10, 20.6).

The Lord said to my Lord: (Psalm of David 110.1) (Matthew 22.43-44) (Mark 12.36) (Luke 20.42-43) (Acts 2.25.33-35).

In verse 13 Paul reveal Who actually sit at the right hand of GOD and Who is the second in charge after the GOD Father. Paul created a scenario saying, "To which of the angels has He (Father) ever said," and then quoted Words of GOD: 'Sit at My (Father's) right hand, until I make Your (Christ's) enemies a footstool for Your (Christ's) feet?'

~ 13. (Psalm 110.1) (Matthew 22.44, 26.64) (Mark 12.36, 14.62) (Luke 20.42-43, 22.69) (Acts 2.33-35, 5.31, 7.55-56) (Romans 8.34) (1Corinthians 15.24-28) (Ephesians 1.20-21) (Colossians 3.1-2) (Hebrews 1.3-4.13, 12.2) (1Peter 3.22).

It is not the Christ Who will subdue His enemies, but the GOD His Father will subdue the Christ's enemies to Him, because by the power of the Holy Spirit of His Father the Christ able to speak, able to teach, able conduct miracles and signs, able to heal, and even able resurrect the dead. Without His Father Christ will be just ordinary man. The whole power of Jesus Christ is always coming from His Father, and not from the Christ Himself. Christ is GOD because He is the Image of GOD, otherwise He would not be a GOD. In other words, the Life of Christ in Heaven and on Earth is fully and completely empowered by His Father, about which Christ Himself testified many times.

This is just the beginning of Paul explanations to Hebrews. Because Paul exclusively wrote this Epistle only to His people the Hebrews who know the Law very well, Paul gently and decisively connected Jesus Christ to the Messiah, for Whom Jews wait to come.

Paul slowly, carefully, and accurately will lead everything he had said about the Son of GOD and Messiah and connected it to Christ, pointing out that the Son of GOD is Messiah - Jesus Christ, the Son and only Son of GOD Father. The general message of Paul is that Christ came to Earth as a humble Man and was rejected by the world, but in His second coming He will reveal Himself fully in the glory and the power of His Father.

In verse 6 Paul also stated about Christ that He is the First-Born of His Father, indicating by this that Christ is the First Born before all other creations came to be, and He, the GOD Father brought His First-Born Son into the world.
6 "And again, when He bringeth in the Firstbegotten into the world, He saith, And let all the Angels of God Worship Him."

Oh, I see where you got this talk about a 'first born'; modern re-writes, because otherwise it is not mentioned in Hebrews 1, like that.

"Firstborn among many brethren" is a biblical phrase from Romans 8:29 (KJV/NKJV), referring to Jesus Christ as the Preeminent, Resurrected Head of a family of believers.

Revelation 1:5 gives the Bible reference for defining Jesus, when He is said to be the Firstborn. Jesus was the Firstborn when He was Resurrected from the dead.

Figurative/Theological Meaning: Refers to the highest-ranking or preeminent person, such as in Colossians 1:15 ("Firstborn of all Creation") or Colossians 1:18 and Revelation 1:5 ("Firstborn from the dead").

Meaning of "Firstborn" (Prototokos): It indicates priority of rank, authority, and status, rather than merely being the first in time.

Jesus holds the Highest Position as the First to be Resurrected and Glorified.

Prototokos (πρωτότοκος) is a New Testament Greek word meaning "firstborn," combining protos (first) and tikto (to beget/bear). It generally refers to the first in a chronological line of children.

However, it is frequently used to denote a position of preeminence, superiority, or heirship (e.g., Colossians 1:15), indicating the most important or honored.

First Born before all other creations came to be, and He, the GOD Father brought His First-Born Son into the world.
As you went down Hebrews 1, you skipped vs 8.

It plainly shows us where God the Father addresses Jesus and God the Father calls Jesus, "God".

8 "But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of Righteousness is the sceptre of Thy Kingdom."

Jesus Himself number of times called His Father as His GOD, pointing that He is the Son Who subordinate and obedient to His Father always.
"Wonderful Counselor" and "Mighty God" are titles from Isaiah 9:6 in the Bible, Prophesying the Nature of the Messiah and calls Jesus "Mighty God"

These titles describe Jesus as a Divine Source of Supernatural Wisdom, Guidance, and Infinite Power...

In fact, that same verse describes Jesus by the Name "Everlasting Father".

"Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" in Isaiah 9:6.

A sense of subordination to God the Father is shown in the Bible verse describing Jesus Handing over the Kingdom to God the Father in 1 Corinthians 15:24.

This verse states: "Then comes the End, when He Helivers the Kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power".
This occurs after Christ has defeated all enemies, including death, at Jesus Second Coming, which may be at any second.

There is a Divine Order of the Divine Persons in the Triune Godhead, which has to do with the Offices held by Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God the Father holds no Office.

Lots of claims in the OP.

Everyone born anew believer is a "son of God."

Adam, the first human was a "son of God."

But Jesus was the uniquely divine Son of God, God incarnate.

Christ did indeed present God the Father to humanity, perfectly, as an exact image. But Logos, the Word, is a different Person of the trinity. Jesus was not a "clone" of the Father.

Yes, God created humankind in His image or likeness, but NOT an exact replica because we are NOT all-powerful, or all-knowing, or present everywhere. Gen 1:26-27, Gen. 5:1, Gen. 9:6.

1 Corinthians 11:7-10 is non-germane, dealing with complying with cultural norms of the 1st century in church of that day. Women wearing hats demonstrated recognition of the authority of the male teachers.

2 Corinthians 4:4 repeats the truth that Jesus is the image of God.

Ephesians 4:24 says we, as born anew believers, are to put on or behave like our reborn human spirit, and put off our old self, our old fallen attributes and attitudes. Again, non-germane as to defining how exact of an image of God was Jesus.

Colossians 1:15 says we, as born anew believers are to strive to project the image of likeness of Christ, rather than fallen humanity as He is the first and foremost born of all of the "born anew creation."

Colossians 3:9-10 says we are to put off our old self, and put on the image of Christ, which again is in the likeness of some of God the Father's attributes, such as love, truthfulness, and worthy of honor.

Hebrews 1:3 is germane and worthy of more detailed study:

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

1) First Jesus presents the radiance and illumination of God's glory.

2) He accurately presents God's actual nature and not some man-made fabrication.

3) Christ does indeed uphold and under-gird all "new born believers," both by His creative power and the authority of His instructions for godliness. After Christ had made provision for sins, with His sacrificial death and His testimony, He returned to sit with God the Father.

And that only addresses the claims made in the first two paragraphs!

Proverbs 8:30, Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; . . . .

Who is speaking? Verse 14, the spirit understanding she being with the LORD rejoicing always. The Son of God is the LORD God being the Creator.

MY NOTES ARE IN CAPS, BUT I'M NOT YELLING!! :Whistling:Thumbsup:Laugh

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary;

"Many regard the passage as a description of the Son of God by the title, Wisdom, AS THE PERSONIFICATION OF WISDOM, 8:1-17) the older Jews used WISDOM THIS WAY (and by which He is called in Luke 11:49 "Therefore also said the Wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:") and as in John 1:1, &c., describes JESUS by that of Logos, the Word.

"...the passage may be taken as a personification of wisdom: because,

"(1) Though described as with God, wisdom is not asserted to be God.
WISDOM OF THIS GODLY SORT IS INTIMATELY IS RELATED TO THE SORCE OF THIS WISDOM, JESUS CHRIST, WHO IS THE ALL KNOWING GOD.

"(2) The use of personal attributes, LIKE WISDOM, is equally consistent with a personification OF WISDOM, as with the description of a real person, SUCH AS JESUS CHRIST, IN THIS CASE.

"(3) The personal pronouns used accord with the gender (feminine) of wisdom constantly, and are never changed to that of the person meant, FROM PROVERBS 8:1-8:17, (as sometimes occurs in a corresponding use of Spirit, which is neuter in Greek, but to which masculine pronouns are often applied (Joh 16:14), when the acts of the Holy Spirit are described.)

"(4) Such a personification is agreeable to the style of this book (compare Pr 1:20; 3:16, 17; 4:8; 6:20-22; 9:1-4)"

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible;

"Beginning at Proverbs 8:18, we see Jesus Christ more directly referred to in an account of Jesus Existence from Eternity as a Divine Person, illustrated by a variety of phrases, especially by Proverbs 8:22;

THE LORD POSSESSED ME.

22 "The LORD Possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His Works of Old.

23 "I was Set Up from Everlasting, from the Beginning, or ever the Earth was.

24 "When there were no depths, I was Brought Forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 "Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I Brought Forth:

26 "While as yet He had not Made the Earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

I WAS THERE.

27 "When He Prepared the Heavens, I was there: when He set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 "When He established the clouds above: when He strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 "When He gave to the sea His Decree, that the waters should not pass His Commandment: when He Appointed the foundations of the Earth:"

I WAS BY HIM.

30 "Then I was by Him, as One Brought Up with Him: and I was daily His Delight, Rejoicing Always before Him;"

WHICH SPEAKS OF JESUS "being with the Father; of His Great Affection for Him, and Complacency in Him; and of Christ's Wonderful Delight and Pleasure in the sons of men, Proverbs 8:30.

"And the chapter is concluded exhortation to them to hearken to His Instructions, AS WISDOM PERSONIFIED AND AS THE ETERNAL LOGAS INTENDED TO BE SEEN AND HEARD SPEAKING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CHAPTER, setting forth the happiness of those that wait on Him in public Ordinances, and find Him; and the misery of those that hate and reject Him."

@Alan Dale Gross,
It is an common error to suppose wisdom she personified to be the preincarnate Son of God possessed by the LORD. We're in truth it is actually the LORD in Proverbs who is the preincarnate Christ. Colossians 1:16-17.

the preincarnate Son of God possessed by the LORD.
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers

"(22) The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way.—The Hebrew word translated” possessed” in this passage (qānah) seems originally to have signified to” set up” or “establish,” and is applied (1) to the “forming” of the heavens (Genesis 14:19) and the “begetting” of a son, (Deuteronomy 32:6);

"next it signifies (2) to “acquire” (Genesis 4:1), (3) to “purchase” (Genesis 25:10), and (4) to “own,” as in Isaiah 1:3.

"From the fact that “set up” and “brought forth” are used just after as synonyms to it, it is most likely that (1) is the proper meaning of the word here, and that the sense of the passage is that Wisdom was “formed” or “begotten” before the Creation, comp. Psalm 104:24.

"This agrees with the rendering of the most important Greek translation, the Septuagint (έκτισε).

"When in Christian times it was observed how well the description of Wisdom in Job and Proverbs harmonised with that of God the Son in the New Testament, such passages as this were universally applied to Him, and the present one was rightly interpreted as describing His Eternal Generation from the Father.

"Such was the view, for instance, of Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Tertullian."

We're in truth it is actually the LORD in Proverbs who is the preincarnate Christ.
AI Overview

"In the Old Testament, "LORD" (all caps) refers to the divine name YHWH (Yahweh/Jehovah), the God of Israel.

"While traditionally understood as God the Father in many Christian traditions, many Christians also believe Jehovah of the Old Testament is Jesus Christ, identifying Him as the Pre-Incarnate God of the Old Testament."
GotQuestions.org +3

"Key Details regarding LORD in the Old Testament:"
  • "Meaning of "LORD" (All Caps): This indicates the Hebrew Tetragrammaton YHWH, the sacred name for God Almighty, which is often translated as "Yahweh" or "Jehovah"."
It is an common error

As they said above "the description of Wisdom in Job and Proverbs harmonizes with that of God the Son in the New Testament," and if it doesn't, I'll eat my hat.

For whatever reason, some people miss out on Wisdom being simply a Name for Jesus.

INTRODUCTION TO Proverbs 8.

This chapter contains the instructions of Wisdom or Christ; showing the excellency of them, and the Author of them, in opposition to the harlot and her allurement, in the preceding chapter.

"Christ, under the Name of Wisdom, is represented as an herald, publishing the Gospel in the ministry of the word, either in Person or by His servants, Proverbs 8:1.

"The places where this proclamation is made are described, Proverbs 8:2;

"the persons to whom, Proverbs 8:4.

"The excellency of the things delivered, being right things; truth, agreeably to the word of God, plain and easy to be understood, and of more worth than gold, silver, and precious stones, Proverbs 8:6.

"And then Wisdom, or Christ, is commended and recommended by his consummate prudence and knowledge, by his hatred of evil, and by his influence on the political affairs of kings and princes, Proverbs 8:12;

"and the advantages of those that are early seekers of Him are pointed out; their enjoyment of his favour, of His riches, honour and righteousness; and their being led by Him in right paths now, and inheriting eternal glory hereafter, Proverbs 8:17.

"And next follows an account of His existence from eternity as a Divine Person, illustrated by a variety of phrases, Proverbs 8:22;

"and of His being with the Father; of His great affection for Him, and complacency in Him; and of Christ's wonderful delight and pleasure in the sons of men, Proverbs 8:30.

"And the chapter is concluded with an exhortation to them to hearken to His instructions; setting forth the happiness of those that wait on Him in public ordinances, and find Him; and the misery of those that hate and reject him."

1. "GOD (Father), after He spoke long ago, to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,"

Coming down from verse 1 to verses 6-7, Paul quotes prophets.

8. But of the Son he (prophet) says, 'Your throne, O GOD, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His Kingdom.

9. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness, therefore GOD, *Your (Christ's) GOD has anointed You (Jesus Christ) with the oil of gladness above Your companions.' (Isaiah 61.1-3) (Psalm 45.6-7, sons of Korah) (John 3.34) (Philippians 2.9-11). KSB

The verses 8-9, presenting the words of the prophets, Isaiah and Korah, and not the words of GOD. Again, GOD Father never called His Son Jesus Christ as GOD equal to Him, but Jesus Christ called often His Father as GOD, as His GOD and as our GOD.

(Psalm 45.7) (Micah 5.4) (John 20.17) (1Corinthians 11.3) (2Corinthians 11.31) (Ephesians 1.3) (Hebrews 1.9) (Revelation 1.6, 3.2.12, 5.10, 20.6).

The Lord said to my Lord:

(Psalm of David 110.1) (Matthew 22.43-44) (Mark 12.36) (Luke 20.42-43) (Acts 2.25.33-35)
.

I agree with you that Jesus Christ is the First in everything and the First in resurrection of the dead, and so on. But it is much more to it. Jesus is the First among Spirits, through Jesus Christ, the First Holy Spirit after His Father, GOD Jesus Christ created the worlds, the Spiritual World and the physical world.

The GOD Father is not the "First" Holy Spirit, he cannot be counted as the "First", because He has no beginning and no end. The GOD Father is beyond of any count, so, no number can apply to Him. All creation included Christ started from Him. This is why He is the father and Jesus is His Son, First Born.

You wrote:

I take these words literally and strongly believe that First Born means First Born under this context and nothing else.

Hebrews 1:1;
"God, Who at sundry times and in divers manners
Spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,"

1. "GOD (Father), after He spoke long ago
Notice, it is God the Father, in the first place, Who Spoke TO the Prophets.
"GOD (Father), after He spoke long ago, to the fathers in the prophets
Who Spoke TO the Prophets
Coming down from verse 1 to verses 6-7, Paul quotes prophets.
Yes, and it was God the Father Who Spoke to those Prophets.
8. But of the Son he (prophet) says, 'Your throne, O GOD, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His Kingdom.
Are you trying to say God the Father wasn't Speaking
when He was referring to Jesus and said, "Thy Throne, O God, is for ever and ever:..."?

For my money, I placed a capitol 'H', where it says, "But unto the Son He saith..."

as in; Hebrews 1:1,8;
1; "God, Who at sundry times and in divers manners Spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets","But unto the Son He saith, Thy Throne, O God, is for ever and ever:
a sceptre of Righteousness is the sceptre of Thy Kingdom.

I know you believe Jesus is God, correct?
Psalm 45:6;
"Thy Throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of Thy Kingdom is a right sceptre."

"Thy Throne, O God, is for ever and ever,...."
This verse and Psalm 45:7 are cited in Hebrews 1:8; and applied to the Son of God, the Second Person in the Trinity; (and therefore are not an apostrophe to the Father, as some have said; nor will they bear to be rendered, "thy throne is the throne of God", or "thy throne is God"; or be supplied thus, "God shall establish thy throne").

"But they are spoken of the Son of God, who is Truly and Properly God, the True God and Eternal Life; as appears by the Names by which He is called, as Jehovah, and the like; by His having all Divine Perfections in Him; by the Works which He has Wrought, and by the Worship which is given unto Him; and to Whom Dominion is ascribed, of which the Throne is an emblem, Genesis 41:40.

"In several places of Scripture, Christ is absolutely called God; as in #Ps 45:6. "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever"; where He is distinguished from God His Father, #Ps 45:7 and the words are expressly applied to Him as the Son of God, #Heb 1:8. "But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God", &c.

Here we see "Christ calls Himself God; as He well might, since He is in the Form of God, and therefore thought it no robbery to be Equal to Him; saying, "Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else; I have swore by Myself", &c. #Isa 45:22,23 which last words, in connection with the other, are, by the apostle Paul, applied to Christ, #Ro 14:10-12.

"The evangelist John, says of the Word, or Son of God, Who was made flesh, and dwelt among men, and so cannot be understood of any but Christ, that "the Word was God", #Joh 1:1,14 and the same inspired writer observes, "Hereby perceive we the Love of God, because He laid down His Life for us", #1Jo 3:16 from whence it follows, that 'He that laid down His life for men', which can only be said of Christ, and wherein His Love to them appeared, must be God."
