Ronnie was a nice guy. I had the privilege of meeting him on three different occasions.

I'm sure his acting ability helped his image considerably. We need that in the White House every now and then.

This nation is now in the worst condition it has been for years. I never seen so many people hate us. We are in a dangerous situation and if we don't get a president that can communicate with the rest of the world or shut up one or the other the world is going to gang up on the US as a whole. We have given away all our industry base, manufacturing and now Tech and Farming. We are so dependant on other nations now to exist it is pitiful. We don't even have the seed to plant fields anymore we have given it all away. All they have to do is cut off our oil supply and we are like a new Lincoln with no fuel, just sitting there "looking good".

I love getting full points Rippon :D

I thought someone would question who my choice for worst president was . . .

Since that hasn't happened, I fess up and say that my choice for worst president goes to Old Hickory, the man who was so mean he nearly refused to die, a man who would have wiped out entire civilizations of people if they hadn't been made of such stern stuff.

I don't know, Brother Bob!!! It ain't as bad as the 8 years of misery under the Clinton captivity!!!

And how do you suppose we've "given all our seed" away??? Right at this very minute---there are combines at full throttle in practically all 50 states----I've got friends who farm big operations----combining beans, corn, wheat, cotton and other staples----from daylight to dark---they'll pick cotton up until Christmas--then turn right around and start plowing for Spring crops.

And I doubt there's a shortage of oil here!!! You want to learn what "shortage" is----get in to studying WW2 logistics---both for Allied and Axis forces---and see which of the two came out on top----German Panzers within 30 miles of Moscow----not able to budge 1 inch---fuel tanks empty!! One German Field Marshal had his Army Group within one mile of one of the largest fuel dumps the US Army had in France----1 mile from 250,000 gallons of 100 octane gasoline---Patton's "Boys" stopped them cold!!!

Stop feeling sorry for us, Brother!!

Yeah, the worst President we've ever had is, unfortunately, still in office.

    I agree.

    Blackhawk;
Wonder why we been paying $3.00 a gallon for gas? We may have some seed but I know for a fact we gave away all the steel factories, manufacturing , textile factories, etc. Also, Clinton didn't do anything the rest didn't do, all the way back to the beginning of this nation, he just left a blue dress behind. Clinton was the smartest man that came through DC for years. All who went after him lost their jobs, including 2 leaders of the house who were guilty of the same thing and playing "holy than thou". Remember Humphrey? Squeaky clean and got caught running barefoot across red carpet of a prostitute room without any clothes.
I made more money under Clinton than any president and lost more under Bush than any. He is a cowboy! riding on the range with Cheney leading the way!
This is Cheney's war in Iraq and Bush just following along "a singing a song, oh de do da day" :)

Has anyone else ever noticed Mr. Bush when gets off a plane? His right hand comes off the hip in his best John Wayne imitation..............well, that's my impression from a distance.......

    Cheers,

    Jim

At least Mr. Carter sat beside Mr. Castro at our late Prime Minister's funeral.......I thought that was neat.

I think Presidents always need a bit of time wallering in History before we can decide whether they were truly bad or good.

I stand by Andrew Jackson as the worst.

Since we've long since gotten away from the OP, may I say that the best President I really remember well, during my lifetime (I don't remember anything about President Truman, very little about President Eisenhower, and not enough about President Kennedy to really make a good informed judgment.), was the only man to hold the office of President and Vice-President without being elected to either- Gerald Rudolph Ford. The reason I say this, is that President Ford was basically the only President in those years, including those of President Kennedy, who did not try to remake the country in his own image of what he though it should be, but functioned primarily as the Chief Executive. That is precisely what the Constitution spells out! The roles of the Legislative and Executive branches of government are clearly and specifically spelled out in the Constitution. (The role of the Judicial branch is somewhat less clearly defined.)
Legislation, hence the direction of the country, is the job of Congress. That Congress may do a lousy job of this is deplorable, granted. That a President happens to have great ideas is wonderful.
But both of these still fail the "So what?" test.

I will offer one thing more. President Eisenhower does not get enough credit, for one of the most revolutionary and life changing things done by any President in my lifetime. That was his dream of a good highway system. The next time any of us USA-types hit an on-ramp to any Interstate Highway, remember that this system was and is his brain-child, and was his dream for some 30 years before he even thought about running for President. And for some of us in KY and a few other states, that dream rubbed off on some of our state officials, as well, here to the tune of our Parkway system. Thanks, President Eisenhower! I, for one, like traveling on good roads!

You do know that Ike got his idea for an interstate highway system when he was Supreme Allied commander in Europe and rolled across Germany on the autobahns that Hitler had built? Not that its a bad thing, in fact, what was built to expedite the transport of war goods to the front for Germany turned out to expedite the advance of the allied troops in the other direction.

I think I mentioned that if Ford had been given half a chance, he would have made a very good President. I liked him a lot, in spite of the clumsy image the press tagged on him. He seemed like a real person. He was doomed by serving in the shadow of Nixon, and the pardon, which wasn't a good move, but in the confusion of the time, who could have known that?

The irony of Gerald Ford's presidency is that it was in Nixon's shadow on one hand, but had it not been for that same shadow, he likely would never have become President. He probably wouldn't have run, and if he did, likely wouldn't have ever been nominated. He barely came out of the Republican Primary in 1976 with the party nomination, defeating Reagan by just a handful of votes.

Allied Air Command's orders went something like this

We don't care where you drop your bombs----but if they hit any part of that Autobahn----we'll courtmarshall you and your crew

President Eisenhower, actually started thinking about better roads when he, then a Lt. Colonel, was a part of a cross-country U.S. Army expedition in 1919. His vision of how much better this could be was greatly enhanced when seeing the Autobahn.

Seems I did read something along those lines, too!! It tells how long it took the expedition to cross the US---but I've forgotten---how long did it take, Ed???

Jackson made my list of worst also. Although he did much to advance the nation, I cannot condone his role in the "Trail of Tears" where so many died while being forcibly relocated to Oklahoma.

Agreed MP -- luckily, my Cherokee ancestors were in the Old Timers group that saw the writing on the wall and left before the Ridges et. al. sold them out. I am ashamed to say that I don't know enough about my Choctaw history to know what they did except that they must have survived. (No comments on the profound nature of that comment, please.)

I could have kissed Nixon, he ended the draft and stopped the Vietnam war. That one action made me overlook watergate and all his other faults.

I also love Lincoln who did what was right in a time when right wasn't popular.

Truman has the guts to drop the bomb. I believe that haunted him to his grave.

Frankie D put the country to work and laid most of the infrastructure for modern america.

But my favorite has to be Clinton, he taught the world how to beat a case (it deepends on what your definition of is, is). He also seemed human when he put on shades and plays a sax on the Arseneo Hall show. I love real people and not fiction characters living up to a template roll.

I didn't like his handling of Samalia, if one American dies I think we're committed to stay and finish the job. If not, those who died died for nothing.

Clinton my favorite also for He is the slickest fellow I ever knew. You tell me what other President knew what is is? :) Ain't that sweet, I get tears everytime I think of it. :) I didn't really care about the sax, I liked the economy while he was in office. I made more money under Clinton than them all. He cut the national debt big time. Reagan, both Bushes pushed the national debt up so high or great, great, great, great, well you get the picture.

I could of used that a lot in my younger days but never thought of it, it took an ole boy from Arkansas to enlighten the world. [IMG]

    But read on!!!

He nailed the lid to the coffin with his Oval Office shi-nan-i-gan------doesn't matter if he came out unscathed everywhere else---he blew it in the Oval Office and disgraced every God fearing American alive at the moment!!! He's an "embarrassment" in my book!!! Doesn't really matter how good the economy was---or how cheap gasoline was---or how low the crime rate was----the fact of the matter is---he and she was in that Oval Office----God help us if thats all we think about is the economy or cheap gasoline or whatever!!!!

Blackbird, my friend, you are judging your president on his sexual adventures,,or misadventures, as you wish, when the rest of the world couldn't care less about them. We make our judgements soley on what he does politically and how those actions affect the world.

Why didn't everyone get excited when Mr. Roosevelt had his mistress in residence at the White House? Why wasn't Mr. Eiesenhour's adventures included a mistress in London during the war raised prior to his presidency. Then there was Mr. Kennedy..oh my what a sad tale there..the whole family got in on those adventures. There was even some suggestion that they had Marilyn Monroe killed to keep silence.

No, we don't pay any mind how presidents, prime ministers, or even the royal family behave in the bedrooms. Only lately has this become an issue with some. Get over it. Mr. Clinton wasn't the first and prolly won't be the last.

As a matter of fact, globally, we were more judgemental of the Congress for causing such a ruckus for so long so that essentially the USA was without meaningful leadership.

    Cheers,

    Jim
