Who wrote the Gospels from scripture alone?

BTW, it was the Council of Carthage in 397 that placed the books of the Nt in their current order, but they were only recognizing what had been accepted by the churches over the previous 300 years. For instance, Clement of Rome quoted from Hebrews in 95AD, calls Matt 9:13 'Scripture' and alludes to at least one other Gospel and most of Paul's letters. Polycarp in his letter to the Philippians around 150, quotes from Matthew, Luke, Acts, Romans, 1Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, 2Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy and Hebrews.

Could you state your sources? This thread has peaked my interest in studying this further.

believe that there were 23 books that were commonly accepted as being part of the NT canon by end of the second century in Church...

All were alluded to by majority of early Church fathers...

Only "debated" ones were like hebrews, based on IF paul actually had written it...
Ditto for 2 peter, james question on works to grace...

BUT
All but handful fully agreed on early on, so the Councul "merely" officially ratified what was already accepted as canon from early on!

But what original sources do you turn to for this information. Where are the early church fathers quoted as alluding to the letters of the NT?

As he had pointed out 2 TIm 3:16 says scripture is useful. It doesn't say it is the final authority. It also says scripture is useful
No, that is not what it says:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God,...(2 Timothy 3:16)
--It says that the Scripture is inspired, meaning that it is the final authority. Any writing that is inspired of God is the final authority. No other authority can be as final as God's very words to us--His inspired words, as recorded by the Holy Spirit in the Word of God, the Bible.

One of the best sources for all of this is the book by Norman geisler, called a general Introduction to the Bible, as that answers many questions on questions like inspiration, canon, inerracy etc!
