I never said she was a "puppy mill".

They can have all the kids the want as long as they keep the taking care of them and putting them all through college their problem and not the taxpayers' problem.

When was it said they were using tax payer dollars to pay for their family? It has been stated that they have no debt and you never said anything before about tax payers funding anything for them. The man's a former state representative. He provides for his family. And before, you said they shouldn't have had that many kids, you sounded as though you didn't think they should "have all the kids they want." That is what I am getting at.

I get so tired of family's being looked down upon because they have a lot of children. Since when did having lots of kids make you bad and/or poor?

I don't think the problem is having a lot of kids, I think the problem is that some people have kids, quote scripture and say "the Lord will provide", and then get behind on their bills and end up on public assistance. That's irresponsible, imo, and it doesn't matter of you've got 1 kid or 10. Some people don't understand that "God will provide" typically means we believers must do something to get that providence. In the case of the OP, having 16 kids is certainly unusual, but this is a case where they made sure they could provide for the number of kids they have.

About 75 years ago and back further 8-20 kids was not considered unreasonable. This sounds like a happy family. My first entry was made in the form of humor,I hope that was understood. My grandmother had 15 children and 14 who lived to become adults. You can't even imagine the fun we had at family gatherings.

Janna, Joy-Anna and now Johannah. Talk about potential for confusion. Fortunately the J-annas are at least 7 years apart. [IMG]

I don't see a problem with their wanting to have lots of kids if they can care for them all.

I reiterate, there's a stereotype in that the father's name is Jim Bob.

How can any of those kids hope to have a really close relationship with either parent?

I guessing that as they grow up, elder siblings will be closer to the younger ones than the parents are.

And I don't call depending on the kindness of others "living within your means." The dad said on the TODAY show this morning that folks give them old clothes.

The BEST thing I can say about this family is that they appear to be fellow Christians. So hopefully there is plenty of spiritual and emotional support from their church family.

I'm appalled by the number of negative comments coming from so-called believers.

My thoughts exactly about the parents can't have a close relationship with all of them. I believe in God blessing families with children we have four ourselves. But I have notice many parents who have a lot of kids put to much demand on siblings to care for their brothers and sisters, that is not their responsibility. God forbid something " BAD " happens to a child under the care of a sibling. think about the Guilt that sibling will experence for the rest of his/her life. It is our job as parents to raise Our kids not their brothers and sisters. that is one of my biggest pet peaves with big families and the fact there are so many unwanted kids out there who need homes. we are eventual looking at foster to adopt.

What if these parents are Mormons who are looking to provide human bodies for spirit babies in heaven, and all the honors they think they will receive if they do ? I thought about that, kind of made me sick.

I come from a family of two children and spent much of my childhood as far away from my mother as possible. She happened to be one of those people who thought parenting was a bother. So much for your close personal relationship theory.

I imagine that those children dont have expectations of anything other than knowing what they know and loving what they have. The mother does not appear to have deep psych issues where she might drown a few in the bathtub, and the father seems to be a hands-on dad. And yes, they will have the added benefit of having a plethora of siblings to count on in times of trouble. ALL of these things are blessings. Why does it seem you sneer at this?

Depending on the kindness of others is not living within your means? I didnt read anywhere that the neighborhood kicks in for each meal and buys toys for the tykes at Christmas. And if they did - so what. It is a tenant of our faith to help one another.

The BEST thing I can say about your commentary is: Ever heard of "if you cant say something nice...dont say anything at all"? Might want to try it out.

I share the  over the blather posted here.

Ken...I understand what you are saying, just thought perhaps you didnt hear how you might be coming across.

It sounds like you are calling into question the salvation of those whose opinions you differ with.

Not their salvation but their walk. I failed to make that clear.
