Why are so many in the world predicting world will end in 2012?

Yes, Diggin... context. Peter is speaking to men who are already pure (v.1) encouraging them to remember the words of the prophets and the apostles (v.1,2). Causing them to realize there will be scoffers walking in their own lusts (v.3) and questioning the coming of the Lord (v.4). The are ignorant of the promise because of their own will (v.5) and not God's decree. Just as the earth suffered the judgment long ago by the flood (v.7), so ungodly men will suffer judgment in the future (v.7,8) But, God is not willing that any should perish (v.9) but that all men come to repentance. As reformed reminded you, context...Who is perishing? Ungodly men? Who has already repented? Those who had pure minds... the Brethren. Who is God not willing should perish? The ungodly! God wants the ungodly to repent and come to Him. How many of the ungodly does He wish to repent? All of them! He is not willing that any of the ungodly perish but that all come to repentance.Context, my friend, context.Thank you reformedbeliever for reminding us to read 1 Peter 3:9 in context. It really brings light on who God wants to come to Him... whosoever.
Great expository teaching!

From the O.P.:
There are many who continue to say that according to all of the worlds cultures, regardless of which, they all match in one thing. The world will end in 2012 or that something huge will happen on that date.

I doubt many (10%+) say that. Maybe a few (1/10 of 1% or less) say that.

I don't believe any significant number of world cultures match on this thing.

TCCreek,

And Jesus marveled they we can look at the sky and see signs concerning the weather, yet we cant discern the signs of the times.

Date nuts. They are ok to eat but it's quite another thing to be one. Those who think they can predict the day are "date nuts." And, those who listen to the date nuts are just as nutty.

Yep! I agree. Date nuts.

Do it on the 22nd, if we're still here
The 22nd will be our 33rd wedding anniversary. Wow what a great time that will be for a second honeymoon. (Hey, Honey can we book Cancun?)

Another fine example of your faulty exegesis and adding to the Word of God.

For example

But, God is not willing that any should perish (v.9) but that all men come to repentance.
The correct quote, using your king james version is

9. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Why add to the Word of God?

Second the context is that Peter was speaking to people who had already repented, the elect, ( read your king james version.)
He is still addressing them ( 8. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

The us-ward is the elect. There were many elect who had not even been born yet as of the writing of the letter. They had to be born and hear the Gospel before the Lord could return.... as He is not willing that any of them would perish. John 6:39. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

That is correct context. That is expository teaching.

Of course you and diggin are two peas in a pod........ so what else could I expect?
