Why are We Still Fighting Racism in America After Losing So Much Blood and Treasure?

The racial mix of churches by itself is a false indicator of racism. It would make just as much sense to say that having a men's SS class is evidence of misogyny, or a women's class, of misandry, and that breaking kids' classes up by age is agism.

Everyone knows that races differ culturally, and this tends to play out in modes of worship. There is no Scriptural reason to demand that believers submit to culture or language foreign to them, and this cuts both ways—it would be racist to do so.
I didnt say it meant anything. I said Church was the most segregated place you will find in the south. Segregating by race for any reason is ethnocentric behavior. I will readily admit I am ethnocentric. I am not racist, but according to liberal sociologists if the day, ethnocentric behavior is racism.

That very first point is a big part of the problem.

How familiar are you with the history of the world, and more especially with its current status? America is actually one of the least racist countries in the world.

I don't know what average Americans you are referring to, but far more racism is expressed in our media than exists within the populace. It is popular to stoke racism via false accusations to control gullible minds with a skewed narrative and thereby achieve an agenda to gain and wield power.

Melancholy may be a personal thing between a believer and God. However, though it may be justified, it may also be entirely misplaced. You may not have nearly enough perspective on racism yet. And there are a great many more things to lament, if that's your calling. Just ask Jeremiah.

I lament over many things in the world. My degree is in political science and international relations. I know racism is common the world over. Just look at the treatment of racial minorities in China and Myanmar. I have had a very hard life too. I hunger and thirst for righteousness, and eagerly await our savior's return. As the scriptures say, this is a dark world.

I do agree the 24/7 media feeds into an environment of fear on race. Racism is much rarer, I want to say, among Gen X, millennial, and mosaics. I have noticed that. Things are much better than even 50 years ago. I agree. I see your point. Don't concentrate on the bad, see the forest for the trees. Good advice.

silly idea that those descended from Adam and Eve of a certain color of skin are somehow less dignified

A picture is worth a thousand words!

I don't get it. What does that picture mean? Did the cow poo on him?

No, that is his shower. However, if he was allowing the beast of burden to "poo" on him I believe it would also support the "silly idea that those descended from Adam and Eve of a certain color of skin are somehow less dignified".

Notice the wet earth?

The post makes no sense.

I think the cow is urinating on him. He is using this as an opportunity to wash off the dust. Some times a man's got to do what a man's got to do. From the looks of the background, there's no running water for miles.

Thank you. Yeah, in the Sahara I hear it is normal to drink camel urine, as nasty as that sounds. Might be the only water you come across for days or more. I'm certainly not signing up for a Saharan adventure!

A Mundari man takes advantage of the antibacterial properties of a cow’s urine, which will turn his hair orange

The fascinating tribe that uses cow-urine showers and ash from dung fires smeared on the skin to fight infection

Dawn breaks on the Nile on the Mundari cattle camp and a young tribesman begins his daily routine - after cleaning his teeth with a stick he douses his head under a stream of a urine from a cow.

The act will not only help prevent infection but will also tinge his hair orange.

Steve, the best commentary on the bad is the practice of the better.

I know racism is common the world over.

Is there a distinction between racial-bias and racism? Are is that just cutting hairs, so to speak?

I recently heard this definition of racism: "If you have ever made a decision based on race, then you are a racist."

I'd like to know your opinions on these matters.

I think we have to be careful here. I went to the dictionary. As per Merriam-Websters,

1. a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

2. racial prejudice or discrimination

3. a: a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles

b: a political or social system founded on racism

These seem good explanations to me.

These photos are shown all the time by racists trying to prove that black people are lesser humans. I am disappointed at someone using it for the same purpose here.

Urine was an important part of early chemistry. IMO, culture and religion are the major determinants for the success of a society - not skin color.

Have you or any of your friends or acquaintances look for a minority church to worship in or a minority neighborhood to live in? If not, why not?

When I grew up after my first apartment, I would commonly choose the places where the "black-skinned" people lived. First, rent was a lot cheaper. Second, my neighbors and landlords tended to be kinder people.

When I lived in the NE Bronx behind a row house, many people stated that they thought I was a Narc.

.

Abouts ten years ago, a movie titled "The Express" was based on the life of Ernie Davis.
The producers chose Rob Brown to play Ernie Davis. Why didnt the producers consider a white actor?
Could it be that both Brown and Davis were both black?

So we do conclude that a decision was made based on race. So were the producers of "The Express" racists?
On the other hand, lets suppose that Ted Danson had been chosen to play Davis- Hmmmmmmm

FWIW - I used "The Express" as my example since I am from the Salt City!

According to modern sociology, that definition is pretty accurate.

I watch the news a lot. The latest troubling news about racism are about Ahmed Aubrey, the black jogger murdered by men trying to citizens arrest him, and a New Yorker named Amy Cooper, who called the cops and lied to them to get a black man arrested for asking her to leash her dog.

These are just the tip of the iceberg, if you talk to average Americans about race. Doing so, unfortunately, you discover racism is still persistently present in America. It seems to be one of our original sins as a country.

I spent memorial day getting to know the civil war better. It was an unmitigated bloodbath for both sides. Fought for some of the silliest reasons wars have ever been fought. Unfortunately, some of our founders as a nation inherit some of the blame for their own racism. A sin that would later lead the nation to total war.

Clearly the example in the Bible's Book of Philemon that slaves must be treated as brothers and sisters never caught on. Other warnings about man catchers, those who make slaves, inheriting hell or the need for believers to not sell themselves into slavery were also ignored.

This is compounded by souring race relations. Although, the Black Lives Matter movement has blood on its hands for stirring up riots that destroy the livelihood of people they want to supposedly help.

My tone is melancholy since this nation's people have been through so much over the silly idea that those descended from Adam and Eve of a certain color of skin are somehow less dignified and less important than those of another shade of skin.

I do not address the George Floyd case, since I believe it is more about excessive force, another issue all its own.

Is my melancholy justified? Or is there far more progress on eliminating racism that I am m

issing? Maybe this moment in American history seems darker than the reality on the ground.
