Who is the better steward of God's gifts of family & home ? The gun owner, or the dude who hopes he's never broken into ?

Joe Home-breakin' would probably go for the gun-free household.

Joe Pro-breakin' is going to wait for the NRA folks to leave, break in and steal all their guns.

If you are not comfortable with it, then don't buy one. Just realize that when someone breaks in your home to do violence to you and your family, and you call 911 that by the time the police get there, you and your family will most likely be dead already. If you have a weapon with you, more than likely, the person who broke in your house will be dead.

I guess as a result of this thread I had better run out and get me a gun and some stickers to put on my home and cars:laugh: :laugh:

For the home, a sticker with the picture of a big, mean Rottweiller and the caption, "I can reach the gate in under three seconds, can you ?" would probably be good enough to prevent a break-in anytime of the day.
Of course, for the more enterprising who does break in at a time when you happened to be home, a loaded 357 will probably work.:flower:

How many women get shot by their boyfriends (or husbands) as compared to by a stranger? There's no way I would ever have dated a guy who walked around with a loaded guy 'just in case' - and in my dating days I lived in Hell's Kitchen.

I dunno. How many men are shot by their wives/girlfriends ? So what ? I would never date a girl who wouldn't date me, just because I had guns in the home. :sleeping_2: What difference does that make, in this argument ?

Does D.C. have a high crime rate, because of it's size, location, the amount of welfare it's citizens recieve, or because people are not allowed to protect themselves ? (I would use NYC also, but I'm not sure of their laws, perhaps you could summarize them)

Does Montana have a low crime rate because of the same questions ?

That reminds me of a story I heard on the radio awhile back, I can't find a link to it though. Anyway two guys broke into this elderly widows house and she responded by firing a few rounds at them from her revolver wounding one and sending the other one running down the street. Just then one of the woman's neighbors come out his house to see what the shooting was all about and saw the guy running down the street. He was heard to yell "and that's just our women folk!" :laugh:

Excellent points made here.

I'm a second-amendment supporter. Firearms are a symbol and tool of freedom, and I think it's every law-abiding citizens right (and duty if they are able) to arm themselves.

While it seems very likely that law abiding citizens would obey gun-laws, it seems highly unlikely that a criminal would obey them.

I understand what you mean about not dating someone who packs a pistol. I guess I see it differently. If I am going to trust someone, I want to be able to know that they can protect our family in a crisis. I always have appreciated the fact that my husband was a carrier, even when we were dating. We used to go to the range and shoot for fun, lol, so he could make sure I could handle myself if the need arose. My Daddy taught me that way too. But it may be just a difference in our cultures where we live.
