In another post, this question was sort of asked, and I felt the nudge to ask this question...

I hope those responding will be candid, and HONESY, and not paint som epious picture. God knows the very secrets of your heart, so, what you provide as an answer will one day be revealed any ways! So why not come forth here?

What prompted you, or motivated you to come to Jesus and be saved?

LOL, nice way to put it! Only have about two minutes here, but can't resist taking it to answer.

It didn't exactly work that way for me. I was in great distress and called out "help me." He was there. So was the other one. To me, it felt like a battle for my soul. Obviously, the right side won.

I felt pretty helpless and small in it, so can't take credit for it. I'd tried to believe prior, said the words, repeated after pastors, but in my heart, I just plain old didn't even when I really, really wanted to. A lot of people don't like to hear that and even seem unwilling to believe it, but I know what was going on in my heart and mind and have no reason to not repeat it in its accuracy.

Why did I come to Jesus?

...because he got ahold of me and wouldn't turn loose. It was amazing.

I "specifically remember" going about my daily routine, in my LOST condition, when all of a sudden, wham...!!!

It took me three days before I approached the guy that lived across the street. When I moved in he came over and introduced himself offering to help me unload the car and carry in boxes. I knew he was a preacher of some sort but otherwise, just wasn't interested.

After coming home from work on that 3rd day..., feeling like someone had turned a weed eater loose in my fruit of the looms, I was banging on his door. Turns out, he was Missionary Baptist and as they say, the rest is history.

The effectual calling and regeneration of the Holy Spirit. What other answer is there?

I was into ufo/evolution/chariots ogf the gods etc, but also did watch Billy graham every time on!

Read the late great planet earth until pages fell out, and started ahving questions for whatI belived and why, and when Freshman in College, "just so happened" 2 SBC don hall were sharing with me, and the Lord intervened to "turn on" my light bulb so I could make sense and realise I was a sinner, Jesus died for me and my sins, and received Him thru faith!

So the "motivtion " for me was trying to rconcile and make sense off what Billy graham and hal lindsay were saying about jesus!

Sorry, JDF, I see that as a cop-out.

You know, you're right. Now that I think about it, I remember telling God, "God, I know you're sovereign and all, but this is how we're going to do it".

What was going on in your life just prior to your being saved?

I had just come home from the Pink Pony with a grouper sandwich and a beer.

Are you asking for my testimony or the theology behind my salvation?

A Hymn --Unknown Authur

1) I sought the Lord and afterward I knew
he moved my soul to seek him,seeking me.
It was not that I had found,O Savior true;
no,I was found by thee.

2) Thou didst reach forth thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank not on the storm-vexed sea.
Twas not so much that I on thee took hold,
as thou,dear Lord,on me.

3) I find,I walk,I love,but oh,the whole
of love is but my answer, Lord,to thee!
For thou wert long beforehand with my soul;
always thou lovedst me.

Isaiah 65:1 is quoted in Romans 10:20. The Lord is speaking:"I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me;I was found by those who did not seek me."

The Holy Spirit had been calling you since the day your reached an age of knowing right from wrong, yet you didn't respond until you responded. Why?

I was hearing the message about Jesus, but NOT UNTIL the Holy Spirit gave me 'ears to hear/heart to respond" was pretty much falling on deaf ears!

I do not remember a time in my life when I was not 100% sure Jesus was the only begotten Son of God, born of a virgin, and raised from the dead, and was the only means for forgiveness.

But it was't until early 2001 that I admitted I was a sinner and asked God for that forgiveness.

The effectual calling and regeneration of the Holy Spirit. What other answer is there?

Absolutely. However, I think the poll is intended to reflect how we perceived the process, before we had the spiritual maturity to recognize the above truth. In my case, my life (I was 24) was a muddle and headed nowhere. I did not yet understand the depth of evil within my sin, but the Holy Spirit directed me to ask Jesus to save me. As I thought about it then, it was less to save me from hell, more to save me from myself (though those two may be much the same.)
