Why do some say there is only one race?

The concept of race has historically signified the division of humanity into a small number of groups based upon five criteria: (1) Races reflect some type of biological foundation, be it Aristotelian essences or modern genes; (2) This biological foundation generates discrete racial groupings, such that all and only all members of one race share a set of biological characteristics that are not shared by members of other races; (3) This biological foundation is inherited from generation to generation, allowing observers to identify an individual’s race through her ancestry or genealogy; (4) Genealogical investigation should identify each race’s geographic origin, typically in Africa, Europe, Asia, or North and South America; and (5) This inherited racial biological foundation manifests itself primarily in physical phenotypes, such as skin color, eye shape, hair texture, and bone structure, and perhaps also behavioral phenotypes, such as intelligence or delinquency.

This is why I don't believe in categorizing people into races. I do believe, of course, in ethnicity, but not race.

This man you are quoting believes that certain "races" can be more intelligent or less intelligent than others. Or more moral or less moral than others. Why do people believe this?P

I'll be as brief as possible.

As sinners, pride [one of the "big three" targeted at Eve, Jesus, and taught in 1 John 2:16] consumes us.

As we look in the mirror and see what we are or WISH we were - THAT becomes the standard. And EVERYONE else who doesn't meet that standard, is not as intelligent, moral, or worthy as we are. We are the most deserving in our own minds.

So we divide ourselves into "us" as the good ones and all else as the bad or pathetic or ones to look down on or to segregate from.

We do this with several things:

[1] Skin tone.
[2] Facial features.
[3] Nationality. Language.
[4] Religion.
[5] Political beliefs. All parties of all systems do this.
[6] Gender. Both men and women claim superiority sometimes.
[7] Height. Weight. Hair styles. Clothing styles. Cultural traditions.
[8] Disability.
[9] Education.
[10] Wealth/poverty.
[11] And SO much more.

We are a sick lot of people who focus only on differences and how the ones "different" from us are less worthy.

There is one race - the human race with a variety of descriptive qualities. The Bible teaches no difference.

It is simply untrue that “only” members of a race share certain characteristics.

I read somewhere, sorry don’t remember where, that middle eastern areas contain about 98% of know racial characteristics, particularly skin color from very white to very dark and all shades in between.

I think the only exception was the shape of the eyes found in Asian areas.

Not to mention mixed race individuals, which a very large % of Americans are.

My daughter did the 23 and me test. My whole life I’ve been told I have a great, great grandmother full blooded Choctaw Indian.

Guess what. 0% Native American, but 9% Indian (as in from India)

Irish and other Western European countries make up the rest.

Peace to you

Additionally, Hitler based his theory of Arian superiority, if I remember correctly, from studies at Berkeley claiming the darker the skin color, the less “evolved” the person was. This less evolved (darker) were less intelligent and more prone to be criminals.

They claimed they could also determine those prone to criminal activity by the shape of their foreheads and how close together their eyes were.

This kind of focus on race is simply…..

…Utter nonsense

Peace to you
