Why do we give God credit?

Another curiosity for me...

I was happily listening to my local christian radio station and they were praying over some prayer requests they received via their internet site. One of things they were praying for was the DJ's friend who was going for surgery that morning...then the next day, same prayer time...they gave a praise report to God in the prayer for bringing the friend safely thru the surgical procedure. What if his friend had died? Would he have blamed God for that? It just seems odd that when good things happen, we're all over God but when bad things happen, we just say that it isn't God's fault...I hope this isn't coming out wrong. I do this very same thing! But it just struck me as odd the other day so I thought I'd put it on here and see what everyone else thought about it.

We might take Job's perspective when he rebuked his wife..."shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?" There is nothing wrong with thanking God for good. At the same time we can expect that sometimes things will not work out as we wish or want them to. That does not mean that we have to be glad when bad things happen, just that we must accept them as a part of the providence of God.

Thats my take on the question....

I had a dearly beloved friend in Christ, we battled shoulder to shoulder so often...

...he read Prison To Praise, a bunch of stuff happened to him, resulting in his reverting to atheism.

He told me, "When things go well, we praise God. When things go bad, we blame ourselves. This is demeaning to us."

He just threw it away and pursued selfish happiness instead of serving God.

A lame theology. We praise God at all times. We can accept some pats on the back, "well done thou good and faithful servant," God will say to some of us who earn eternal rewards (thread jack!)

We are COMMANDED to pray for the sick. We may even lay hands on them and minister healing, or speak healing into being: "...such as I have give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ, rise up and walk!" ACTS some chapter: some verse, check ye olde concordance.

We are COMMANDED to intercede in prayer. We let God decide the results, the answer, but we never cease praying for healing for those who are sick or injured. It is God's will that healing and deliverance occur, our faith must rise to the obtaining of it.

Jesus never made anyone sick. He NEVER said, "I'd love to heal you, but God is teaching you something through this disease, so you're just gonna have to endure. Praise God anyway."

Jesus always healed when there was faith. The only times He was unable to heal, He ascribed it to their lack of faith. "did no mighty works there due to their unbelief."

Ps 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Kathy, around here the remark would have been that our friend had received their eternal healing and please pray for the families who will miss them, etc.

Great verses, diane.

Hebrews 4:15 so easily we forget that God tells us to come BOLDLY to the throne of grace, clothed in the worthiness that Jesus outfitted us with when we accepted His payment for our sins.

Well, for those who love God, there really are no bad things. All things are working for good. Nothing is God's FAULT, for what God works is always right, but everything can certainly be credited to Him "who works all things according to the counsel of His will."

Not even a sparrow falls apart from our Father's will. Are we less important than sparrows?

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
