Thats the question. They are making a movie called "Heaven is for Real" which is not a theology book, but a book that teaches false doctrine. If Christians would read theology they would have discernment.

Discernment is a spiritual gift from the Holy Spirit. It is a spiritual skill that is "given to who the Spirit wills" , not from signing up for a college course.
Of this I agree. But what did you think of the QUESTION of this post?

The boy knows if he is telling the truth or not.
If Christians would read the Bible, they would have discernment. I've read the Bible and I recognize that the movie in question is not sound.
I didn't need someone who wrote a book on his/her opinion of theology to tell me that.

Right here is why:
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Very wise post thank you for reminding me of this verse. I bet a doughnut I post a critical review of that false book and new movie coming out (on Facebook) and people will label me as "divisive" "argumentative" always "complaining" and such as they do when one shows discernment.

As best I can tell, all of the previous posts are pre-supposing that the person(s) to which they are referring with regard to their "reading the Bible," are (of necessity) genuine, born-again Christians.
Unfortunately, this assumption, per se, is not always true of ALL the folks who set out to read God's written Word.
Prior to my own personal salvation when I was nearly 20 YO, I occasionally set out to read the Bible. Other than the few well-known "Bible stories" such as David and Goliath, etc., I really had absolutely no clue whatsoever what the Biblical passages were trying to tell me.
Looking back from the vantage point of nearly 50 years "in Christ," I now know why I couldn't understand those Bible passages---It was because I wasn't saved, and, consequently wasn't indwelled by the Holy Spirit---the Bible's REAL author.
Moreover, even after my salvation experience, for almost a year after I received Christ as my personal Savior, I was in an environment in which I received very little training about how a new Christian needs to go about understanding the Bible.
The principal reason for this was because the local church with which I associated was made up primarily of elderly, retired people whose ages were at least 50+ YO. I'm sure these folks "meant well," but, there simply was not the kind(s) of Biblical training there that I really needed.
Thankfully, in the years subsequent to that, God saw to it that I was blessed by some very dedicated pastors who were much closer to my age and who could better identify my spiritual needs in this respect.
As to my take on either the Heaven Is For Real book or the movie, I haven't seen either the movie or plan to read the book on which the movie is based. Therefore, I'm not going to even attempt to evaluate either one of them.
I will, however, add my $0.02 by stating that I don't think any really discerning Christian will be very spiritually edified and/or educated by his/her viewing a "Hollywood-Produced" movie or by reading a "Pop-Culture-styled" so-called "Theology[?]" book that very readily shows up on the shelves of the majority of most general-market-based Christian bookstores today.

No naivete here personally to believe or assume salvation for any person. I'd also dare say those Paul referred to in the passage I've given may or may not be regenerate.
If it takes prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to explain to someone who HAS read the Bible and understands it that this movie is not sound - then the Bible is weak.
I don't think the Bible is weak.
I don't read all the books that you do on theology.
Aw, what the heck. I don't read any of them. I don't even know who "Mac" is.
But guess what ... I understood this movie to be unsound. I gathered that from what I've read in the Bible.
Am I saying that theology books aren't good? No, I am saying that for me - I'm not going to trudge through them trying to decide who is telling the truth or not. Or - get hooked on a particular author and then find out he cheats on he wife!
I'll read commentaries from time to time and I like discussing things with other people.
I know some here will fault me for this opinion and declare a "female who is only interested in the shallow end of the spiritual pool" - but whatever.
I'm just trying to say that everbody and his brother writes books today. And to become dependent on them is sad to me.
I once read the South Beach Diet book from cover to cover and didn't lose a pound.
The key is putting that book down and that will automatically decrease your weight
How do we know people don't like reading theology anyway? Some stats might be nice.

Christians do not like reading theology because we are unedducated hicks who neglect our children who all have failing grades. Why churches do not practice church discipline on each and every one of us is beyond me.
Oh and on a side note Dispensational Premil is one of the greatest hindrances to the spirit of taking the world for Christ in the world today.
