Why is it always one sided?

Our church is celebrating racial harmony and addressing the still current issues of racism in the south and abroad. MLK is a hero of mine

I took this quote from the Martin Luther thread. I have always wonder and maybe so have others...why are only whites labled racist and not blacks or other "minorities"? Any time a black is assulted by a white either verbally or physically they are called racsit, but when a black does the same exact thing it is never labled as such. I mean how many times do they call each other the "N" word, I knew a black kid growing up who named his dog that.

We just watched the movie BLOOD DIAMONDS yesterday (very disturbing indeed, flinched many times) and knowing what goes on over in Africa due to other resourses...there are more blacks killing and offending blacks in Africa and in America than whites ever have or will. And talk about slavery...do they not and have always had their own? Did they not surrender their own to outsiders for goods and profit?

Not to sound racsist, I AM NOT far from it! Just dealing with facts and reality that's all. Or did I just break an unspoken rule?

A lot of the younger blacks regret that their fathers were racist towards whites. Same with us whites...

What has MLK REALLY done? The black man is less free today than he has ever been in this nation but it is not because of the oppression (so-called) of the white man. It is because the black communities of this nation will not rise up and put a stop to the violence they are wreaking upon themselves in every major city. Blacks kill more blacks in this nation than EVER happened prior to 1950-1970 by bigotted whites. And the same is true of the Mexican communities. And the Asian communities. They are killing each other yet the blame is put on the white man. Why?

I just read this after my OP...I see someone else agrees. Although I believe the other races do not have a VICTIM mindset and do work hard and together to better themselves. I know alot of blacks and what I keep hearing from most, not all. Is a VICTIM mindset, until they can get rid of that victim mindet and that everyone is out to get them and get past slavery, they will always have problems.

Tinytim I am not talking personal examples which I personally have never heard, nor my husband who grew up in San Fransico and worked in Oakland Ca.

Wow, by looking at your posts, and certain others, it seems as if black people don't take responsibility for anything. That there are really no programs set up in black communities to better said communities. Know what I say- HOGWASH! Has anyone else noticed that it is not so much a "black" problem as a socioeconomic problem? Get real folks. Black people are working to better their communities. All this "all black people cry about vicitimization" is ridiculous. Yes, some do, MANY others don't. I mean c'mon how much do you really know about the black community? Aren't you on the outside looking in? I dare say so.

Know what I find comical? Black people acknowledge that some black people are just as racist as some white people. However, the black people that i know who actually racist towards whites readily admit it. The white people, some of which I know others I don't, have to continually boldly proclaim, "I AM NOT RACIST". Guess what, if you have to keep trying to convince yourselves and others you are not racist you probably are.

As for MLK only bringing on abortion and other nonsense as a result of the Civil Rights Movement that is pure fantasy. First of all the Civil Rights movement was about equality and enforcing CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS that had BEEN ON THE BOOKS since the end of the CIVIL WAR. Abortion is a completely different matter of law dealing with the definition of liberty.

First of all you originally placed this post in the MLK thread. Secondly by "others" I meant other people's posts, not yours. Lastly, I don't see anyone saying it is all right for anyone to be racist. Please elaborate on who said this and then maybe we can discuss it. Personally I believe in equality for everyone at all times. I don't think it is right for anyone to be racist.

NOT ALLEGED...it is a fact. They are told that in order to get rid of aids one must lie with a virgin, so in their sick "PAGAN" mind the younger the virgin the better they will get. I saw a whole documentry on this fact!

Sorry maybe I am still a bit emotional after seeing the movie. But you do walk away with a sense that something is wrong with the way blacks treat their own fellow race...in Africa and America. Their cry today in America is "the white man has enslaved us and taken away our rights...we are still victims of the white man" how many years has it been now since they have been free???

And what about the fact that when South Africa was under white government they were more civil and free...less crime and better off economically, yet since the blacks took over about 15 years ago under Mandella. there has been nothing but bloodshed and repressing of women and children.

Sure you will. Louis Farrakhan has been taken to task several times. Jesse Jackson was caught in the "Hymietown" controversy.

Now, as to your particular complaint: Racism can properly be applied when one prefers one "race" over another for no objective reason. This is widespread and pretty much a common malady of fallen humanity. It applies to nationalities, ethnic groups, residents of cities and towns.

In the American setting, racism has often been accompanied by an imbalance in the relationships of power, which turns human likes and dislikes sometimes into a matter of life and death, or of oppression in terms of economics and politics.

It is quite likely that racism - or some variant - is present in a vast swath of society. However, the fact that a black plumber in Birmingham in 1963 may have disliked white people made little difference to society (unless he sabotaged the plumbing of folks he didn't like, which probably would lose him business.) However, if you are Bull Connor and feel inclined to turn dogs and fire hoses on peaceful protestors because you dislike them, racism has societal consequences.

I think this has become a bit blurred in modern society. What may be irrational emotions with no root in fact - and few societal consequences - are sometimes treated as if they are as serious as prejudices with severe consequences. An unfortunate reflex, because then biases that really do affect the public are defended as no more important than those that don't.
