Perhaps folks should stop trying to merge their politics with their Christianity?
Oh & how does one do that.....lets say on Abortion issues, are we to ignore that?
For the same reason "Left Wing" Christianity is bad.
We should be very careful about tying the Kingdom of God with the agendas of the kingdoms of the world.
Maybe, maybe not.

There are many different ideas as to the best way to take care of "widows and orphans" and those in similar situations of need. There are also many different ideas on what it means to "act justly and love mercy."
For instance, with the whole issue of illegal immigration and the status of those who are in the United States illegally. Which side should we emphasize? Justice or mercy? The right wing generally pushes for 'justice', absolutely refusing any thought of amnesty while the left wing generally pushed for 'mercy' which considers amnesty in some situations. I don't want to turn this into an immigration thread, but that's the issue.
Christians can agree on what true and honorable religion is all about, but transferring that to political action is not as easy as one might expect - unless you simply adopt the political agendas of the kingdoms of the world.
We should be very careful about tying the Kingdom of God with the agendas of the kingdoms of the world.

Ignore it why? Abortion is a moral issue that's been usurped by politicians to attract voting blocs.
Preaching the loving Gospel of Jesus Christ shouldn't even be involved in the politics of abortion.

Political conservatism and theological conservatism aren't the same thing. Having a right-wing belief in limited government has nothing to do with conservative theology. One could be left-wing politically and still hold to conservative theology.
There are certain elements of both extreme Right-Wing Christianity and Left-Wing Christianity that should be avoided by those of us who "claim the name of Christ."
The Apostle Paul writing in Romans 13 shows us how we should act toward both the "spiritual" and the "secular" institutions with which we must deal in this life.
Each of these God-ordained institutions has its proper role in this world; however, when either one of them oversteps its proper boundaries and gets way too involved with the other one, dangerous circumstances will most assuredly soon arise.
We saw the perilous results that took place when Roman Emperor Constantine I tried to merge his unbiblical type of so-called "Christianity" with that of the state.
Very soon after that took place in the early 300's A.D., we saw the beginnings of both a very corrupt form of "organized[?] 'religion'" and a similiarly corrupt form of "state government" that ushered in what historians call the era of "The Dark Ages" that lasted for several centuries in the "known part(s) of Western Europe."
Such dictators as Charlemagne I (i.e., "Charles the Great" [r. c. A.D. 823 - c. A.D. 877)] and his successors who ruled as the so-called "Holy Roman Emperors" over various parts of Western and/or Central Europe for several centuries thereafter did very little (if anything at all) to improve the lot of the poor peasants who had the misfortune of being born during their tumultuous and war-torn reigns.
Later on we saw the disastrous results of the atheistic and ungodly that both the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars wrought on most of Europe during the mid 1700's through to the mid 1800's.
The subsequent atheistic, communist-inspired riots and upheavals that begun in the mid-1800's on our contemporary days did nothing but to make our world a breeding ground for ruthless dictators such as Lenin, Stalin, Mao-Tse Tung, Pol Pot, and Kim Il Sung.
Even in our so-called "Western democracies" we saw our governments support a rather long list of atheistic, anti-God dictatorial tyrants such as the thugs that ruled in(to name just a few countries): Libya, The Congo, Rhodesia, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, the various Balkan & Baltic countries, India, and Afghanistan; and, closer to "home," Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Argentina.
I could go on to name other ruthless dictators in other parts of the world that our government help prop up with our hard-earned tax dollars and military forces, but I think that you catch my drift.
If current trends are any indication, I seriously doubt that our political leaders will ever stop in their ill-advised efforts to promote their concept of so-called "Nation Building[?] throughout the "Third World."
Thankfully, God's Word does encourage us when it tells us that one day (and I believe it'll very soon!) the Prince of Peace will establish a permanent Kingdom where REAL PEACE AND SECURITY WILL ABOUND such as the Apostle John described in Revelation 21-22.
If you're like me, I feel certain that you share John's final prayerful wish that's found in Revelation 22:20 -- ".... Even so, come Lord Jesus."

Yes, just like those. Slavery was a moral issue in America just as it was in the time of Moses.
The truth of God's word dealt with the politics of that day just as it should have in America.
For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
The righteousness of the people of God doesn't have to be partnered with the world's politics.

So the Founders were wrong when they said that one could NOT seperate relion/morals, from having an effective government?
Should we NOT get involved as in Moral majority/anti slavery/ant woen, or should we have just keep praying/preaching and watch society burn?
