Hi to all , and I see that many believers say that we are following Jesus , and if that is true , please explain John 20:22 and 23 ?

In verse 19 , the CONTEXT are the disciples , and has anyone noticed that the Gospels are part of the Old Testament and Law related ?

And verse 20 is also very controversial and will do a separate OP on it .

Then in verse 22 , He breathed on them , and saith unto them , Receive ye the Holy Spirit .

Here is the hard part for believers , verse 23 ;

#1 , Whosoever sins ye REMIT , they are REMITTED unto them

#2 , and whose soever SINS ye Retain ;

#3 , They are Retained .

If we follow Jesus , can we do this REMITTING ?

Was this for the Jews ONLY ?

Is this for today ?

How is this REMITTING for Sins done then and HOW is it done today , if we are to follow Jesus ??

Hi to all , and since no one even gave a verse , I can onlt the REMITTED SIN was done by Water Baptism , as that was the economy during the Gospels and Acts , for Israel .

It can not be done by Water today , because OUR SINS are cleanse bt the Blood of Christ and NOT water , dan p

Dan, today you started four different threads. Add that to the one or two that you started yesterday and it adds up to almost half the threads on this page. Could you please stick to some of the topics already started instead of starting new threads every day.

They had been commissioned to go preach the gospel and with the promise of power to accompany that witness. When the gospel is preached so is the remission of sins and when the gospel is rejected so is the remission of sins. Every preacher has this authority when they preach the gospel - "repent or perish" OR give "witness that whosever believeth in His name SHALL RECEIVE REMISSION OF SINS" (Acts 10:43).

One of the best answers I have seen on this one.

Yes.

I think this is closely related to Matt 16:29 "I will give you the keys to the kingdom..."

The disciples were given the power to declare the terms of entry to the kingdom, just as believers today. The terms of entry are repentance and faith. In the same way, we are given the authority to declare the terms under which forgiveness (or remission) takes place.

When Paul told the philosophers on Mars Hill that God "commands all men everywhere to repent," he was declaring the terms of forgiveness, remission.

Then we can truly say to to a repenter, "because of your repentance, your sins have been forgiven."

I agree completly.

The Catholic Church of course butchers and mutilates that passage of scripture beyond belief, in order to fool people into thinking that the parish *priest* must *pronounce* a persons sins *forgiven*.

But Dr Walters explanation is the truth of the passage.

Yes, it is for today and for everyone of us:

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
