Why not move the clock.

I know that the government thinks that it would be neat to keep "daylight savings time" year around.

We in the south think "daylight savings time" doesn't help at all, that it is actually detrimental to our personal expressions of the need to keep a decent sleep cycle.

I have a solution that will help everyone, and resolve the whole mess.

Why don't we all just move the clock a half hour and leave it permanently alone!

A half hour would resolve the daylight issue for the Yankees, and we Southern Gentlemen can settle into a decent routine in which we wouldn't be quite so grumpy for two months out of every year.

What do you think?

Off hand, it sounds more complicated than DST. My understanding is there is a uniformed world measure of 24 hour days, with Greenwich (?) England being the baseline.

Would be impossible for the whole world to change at 1/2 hour.

Can this world get any more messed up by a (1/2:Sneaky) time change than politicians have accomplished lately!?:Whistling:Whistling

Hard to imagine, but I think it would. We cant get the rest of the world to drive on the right side of the road and they call “soccer” “football”.

To have time zone only a half hour different would a bigger pain going from here to there and back.

We in the south love daylight savings time.
I’ve never really understood why. If I remember correctly, it was first proposed by Ben Franklin to save candles. Later, it was thought it would help the agriculture industry, I think.

Surely, everyone understands we don’t actually “gain” or “lose” an hour?

peace to you

Because moving the clock in the spring gives us more daylight hours to get things done. It is better if it just stays that way year round.

This is really a northern thing.
If left alone the sun would rise around 4am. In winter it would set around 4 am.
Conversely if they went to Daylight savings time, the sun would stay up until about 9:30 in summer but the sunrise in winter would be around 9 am.
We should do a poll regarding whether the majority are morning folk or night folk. Winner gets to set the time.

I am a night folk. Get up early and need a pot of coffee to fully wake.

Did you know some countires do have a 1/2 hour time difference. In fact one country has a 15 minute time difference

The “daylight hours” stay the same, no matter what your click reads.

Totally & purely psychological! After all, it’s much easier to go to work when the clock shows 8:30 rather than 7:30 or whatever, regardless of where the sun is. Ole Sol’s position is irrelevant, the clock sets the rules!!! ‍
One florist stated to a reporter, back in 60s when the state went on DST, that he did not know whether his roses could stand the extra hour of daylight. Didn’t know him personally, so not sure whether this comment was TIC or serious??!!
I personally prefer standard time, BUT, I REALLY would love to get either and LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!✔️

I'm rooting for it to be gone. It doesn't help my farming at all.

Most farmers nowadays that don't have 1000+ acres usually have a normal 40+ hour a week job and do farming as a calling on the side.

When I get done with my 40hr/week job at 4:30pm/5pm I only have 30 minutes to an hour of daylight to get farm work done in the evening. Removing DST would give me an extra hour of productivity.

If year round savings time - 22 Dec
In Syracue, NY Sunrise would be at 804 am
In Anchorage, Alaska Sunrise would be at 11:14 am
In Atlanta, GA, Sunrise would be at 838 am
