What we needed was someone OFFICIALLY representing the United States of America. Whether that be President Obama or someone appointed by him to stand in his stead.
Rick Perry represents Texas. So does Ted Cruz. Marco Rubio represents Florida. The person going to Paris should have been someone whose constituents are every single person living in the United States.
If Perry and company had gone, it would have been of their own volition and it would have looked like they were trying to override the president and worst of all it would have appeared to be a photo op merely to gain support for a 2016 bid for president themselves.
It would have been a disaster.
What was needed was a very high ranking, world recognizable figure appointed by the president to represent both him and the entire United States.
It should have been the vice-president.
