Why you must vote and what you can expect

This is NOT for you if you are liberal!!! This is a wake-up call for those who feel they are doing the "honorable" thing by voting either 3rd party ( that you know has no chance) or not voting because all of them are --- (you fill in the adjective that suits you)!
Please note the emphasized portion (by me) that this was the last election ('08); and we all see how that turned out!

Do not expect more than democracy can deliver, but do help deliver democracy from itself.

This is not an article for those who are unabashedly in love with democracy, who look forward to election year with patriotic zeal directed first of all to the nation and second of all to one of the political parties. I write instead for the genuinely dispossessed: for those who feel deep in their bones that the entire political process is a sham; who think that our country, whatever its previous merits, is accelerating in a decades-long slide; who grant that Americans enjoy great blessings, but do so in the midst of self-inflicted moral and spiritual deprivations; who believe that voting for either candidate is merely a decision about the handbasket in which to ride to hell. In short, I write for those who, faced with the prospect of choosing between Senator Barack Obama or Senator John McCain, are nearly in despair about democracy and who are consequently planning to skip the whole sordid affair rather than soil their consciences. ------

Here is a quote from the last paragraph.

The one thing most needful at this point is to do whatever we can to restore the moral, pre-political foundations of this nation, without which our democracy will surely crumble into tyranny. Let that be the wisdom that guides your vote."

This was written in the 2008 campaign. A constant theme of the article is the dispair of voting for McCain or Obama. The last paragraph says "the one thing most needful at this point is to do whatever we can to restore the moral, pre-political foundations of this nation." Now, all these people that were in despair in 2008 obviously learned nothing, as not only do they not restore more foundations, they are nominating a man that makes McCain look like a saint.

In your post, you say to fill in the adjective that suits you. Those adjectives for Mr. Romney would be pro abortion, pro gay rights, and an anti Christian cult member. You make light of "doing the honorable thing and voting third party," yet, you are advocating voting for someone with these qualities? Have you wondered how much blood was shed because of Mitt Romney's decisions in Massachussetts? How many votes is a life worth?

The type of government is discussed at length in the article. Democracy is bashed several times. The problem is, this nation is not a democracy. It is a democratic-republic. Secondly, if you want to live under a kingship or aristocracy, then move to a country where such a government exists. Our very nation was founded on a not living under a king. This nation is governed by the Constitution. Lots of people have died to defend freedom and liberty, and no, there is no way that this nation is going to return to being ruled by a bunch of self indulgent, arrogant, slobs.

If that article is the best defense one can come up with for voting for Mitt Romney, then he might as well shut down his campaign.

The idea that made my stomach turn the most in the article is the comparison of the Kingdom of God with any king on earth. There is no comparison. God is compassionate, righteous, just, and loving, all at the same time. Kings and artistocrats are self serving slobs.

The article is not worth the paper it is printed on, and being a conservative Christian, infuriates me. The very idea of electing a liberal pig with no morals like Romney to lead the nation I fought for, not in this life time or the next.

I think people should vote their consciences. As an undecided voter, I may vote for a real progressive. The major parties have no right to my vote. I will vote for the best candidate, regardless of party, except I will only vote for a Republican if only Republicans are voting.

After reading about 2/3 of this Catholic dribble.....I had to stop, he could have taken about 250 words to convey how many signifigant arguments he posed. While I am not one who feels as disposessed as the "third-party" type voters or those who will sit home; I understand where they are coming from and will probably end up one myself...We have two options before us usually....the guy who will push us to godless communism in 5 years, and the guy who will do so in about 30 years...better to let the inevitable arrive and begin the next inevitable revolution and start from scratch. No one has a right to your vote, either they earn it....or they don't.

We will continue to have milquetoast Repubs, and quasi-conservatives as long as we keep reminding them (with articles like this) that we will vote for them anyway. They hear this bell, and like Pavlov's dog, they salivate....because we keep feeding them. Because we (and those who right articles like this) like the dog of Proverbs: continue to return to our own vomit.

Biblically we are called to vote and to be active in politics and government.

We are, however, not called to vote for the "lesser of two evils because the guy we want to vote for has no chance"

So let me get this straight... We vote for the lesser of two evils, someone with little chance, pray for a per-tribulation rapture, succeed from the union, move out of the united states, or bear potential martial law...and my opinion?

Well, we can ray for a pre-tribulation rapture all we want, the point is that the rapture will happen when god decides, not us. So this would be a blessing if it did happen, but not something we can count on really.

Could we move form the united states, perhaps some of us can, but what about those who can't hold down a job due to disabilities, and such? And those unable to relocated? Not the brightest idea, sure, but it could be possible under the right conditions.

Voting for mitt over Obama... differently an option, but will it be beneficial enough to cause any good? Is the chance worth it? And is mitt really who he says he is? Another option, but one that has some risk.

Succeeding from the union? Not the most popular choice by anyone's standard, but I'd be behind a succession that was both backed by and blessed by the Lord. Still, the idea of giving up the identity as a citizen of the U.S. as well as the bloodshed that would be involved does concern a lot of people, and the idea of having to kill for freedom doesn't appeal to me specifiably, but this may be our best option. An open option, true, but a last resort option

Bearing potential national martial law, If my idea is to do nothing until martial law, and to try and die quickly without , then it's an option. But If I'm wanting to save the US, enjoy my freedoms, and or spreed the Lord's message, then this should never be considered as an option.

Never the less, no matter what we chose, we must bear in mind that we are following the Lord's will in what we do, and that the road ahead will be difficult.
