The issue of KJVOism is not with the KJV. The issue wth KJVOism is not one of which translation is better than which translation. The issue of KJVOism is that KJVOists hold the KJV to the level of being perfect, and authoritative over any other translation before of since. KJVOists believe that the KJV and the KJV alone is the sole authoritative, inspired, perfectly preserved, and infallible Word of God for all Christians everywhere. This is a completely false doctrine (since it is not found in scripture, and all who love the KJV must take a stand against such doctrinal error.Originally posted by Diggin in da Word:
Although many claim the KJV full of holes and that the NASB is more accurate, I notice that the KJV has only made changes to spelling and printing errors and left original hebrew and greek alone.

Only very extreme KJVO's believe what you said.
A true KJVO knows the King James Bible in the correctness of the 1611 to be the Word of God for English speaking peoples.
Due to many updatings and changes made in definitions by who else? Liberals!, the demand for an
"easier" to read bible is made, but then the understanind is made dim.
The eloquence of the English language of the era the King James was translated is unmatched and also unequaled by any standard of present day English.
Of course one can fall into the pit of liberalism that demands our English of today to be more exact than that of yesteryear, but that is truly laughable to anyone who takes any amount of time to study our language and knows how we came about our language from multiple languages.
The King James will always remain unequaled in harmony and eloquence due to the everchanging and watered down English we now speak and the constant inventions of new words.
Maybe you should be more specific and not try this again Johnv, unless you're practising deceit?
No, it isn't!Originally posted by TCassidy:
Yes, they skipped it because it is patently untrue!
I don't deny this in any way nor any point...but what we're discussing here is the CURRENT DOCTRINE of KJVO which was indeed started, although inadvertently, by Dr. Wilkinson. And it started in the USA, not England. The earlier British squabbles involving the RV & Dean Burgon were "worked into" the mix later, after subsequent authors had written their books, based upon Wilkinson's Our Authorized Bible Vindicated.Dr. G. Campbell Morgan (1863-1945) wrote, "The psalmist breaks out into
praise of the purity of His words, and declares that Jehovah will 'keep
them' and 'preserve them.' The 'them' here refers to the words. There is no
promise made of widespread revival or renewal. It is the salvation of a
remnant and the preservation of His own words which Jehovah promises."
(Notes on the Psalm, Revell Comp., p.32). And there were other commentators
long before Morgan who held to the same view.

The pit of liberalism is that which reqires English to be frozen in time from that point on, and requires that ll adopt one sole translation from that point in time. Conservatism, otoh, encourages translations of scripture into the verying languages that common people all opver the world speak today.
[QB], but that is truly laughable to anyone who takes any amount of time to study our language and knows how we came about our language from multiple languages.Clearly, you have not studied the history of languages, or you would not have made such a statement.

Yet another subjective statement completely devoid of anything factual (not to mention, anything scriptural).
Still waiting for you to point out what was false in my statement. In your own words, you've actually bolstered what I said.Maybe you should be more specific and not try this again Johnv, unless you're practising deceit?
Over and over and over again I have given you quotes from established authors and publications dating from the turn of the 20th century dealing with the issue of KJVOism indicating the author had been aware of it as early as 1875 but you, much like the KJVOs, simply ignore anything that disproves your pet thesis!Originally posted by robycop3:

Here we go again. The Salamander bait and switch in lieu of discussing the topic. Let's make this simple, so even you can understand it. KJVO's believe that the KJV is the sole Word of God. Some believe it is the sole Word of God for all people regardless of language, and some believe it is the sole Word of God for English speaking people.Originally posted by Salamander:

The Bible ain't about "harmony and eloquence." It's about vital information. If you were writing a software manual, would you write in KJV style English? The King James will always remain unequaled in harmony and eloquence due to the everchanging and watered down English we now speak and the constant inventions of new words.
Not only did it meet opposition, the King had to outlaw the Geneva bible to get people to use the KJV!Originally posted by gb93433:
Anyone knows that the KJV including the apocrypha was a modern translation in 1611 and met opposition then.
Wrong again!Originally posted by robycop3:

That, in a nut shell, is exactly what KJVOs believe today. To try to say that the current KJVO position originated with Wilkinson is simply untrue and to continue to repeat it when you know it to be untrue is dishonest. We cannot defend a book of Truth with untruth!W. B. Riley stated in his book "The Menace of Modernism" (New York: Christian Alliance, 1917), there were a group of men whom he describes as the "old conception," who believed the Authorized Version or King James Bible was alone inerrant. He states on page 11, "On this point we are inclined to think that, even unto comparatively recent years, such a theory has been entertained." He then ascribes this belief to ignorance, and says, "I think it would be accepted without fear of successful controversy that such fogies in Biblical knowledge are few, and their funerals are nigh at hand."
It is clear that Dr. Riley believed there were still a few of the "old conception" men in his day that still believed in an perfect, inerrant KJV, that they were mostly old men, and were soon to pass away. If these men were old men when Riley wrote his book, they must have dated to at least the latter part of the 19th century. Over one hundred years ago, a group of "old conception" men existed who still believed in the absolute inerrancy of the KJV. This proves that the "King James Only" position is not of recent origin.
In Riley's day, a group of men still existed who believed, "(1) the Bible was finished in heaven and handed down, (2) the King James Version was absolutely inerrant, and (3) its literal acceptance was alone correct." (Page nine of Riley's book as quoted by Dr. George W. Dollar in his book "History of Fundamentalism in America", Page 114.)
