Paul assumed he was saved, and was offering that assumption under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit! Maybe you no better than Paul, but why would it be such a big deal to Paul to get this guy out of the church if he wasn't saved. The unsaved people that our associated with our churches are not the problem in our churches... it is the saved people who continue in their sin that are the real problem. (read Ephesians 4)

The man was part of the lump (in context he is saved), his SIN (leaven) is what was going to ruin the lump.

You have twisted the scripture to your liking it seems.

Why you assume that Paul thought he was saved? Paul said get rid of him so maybe he could get saved.

Jud 1:4For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Why do you say it is not the unsaved who causes problems when scripture says they do?

Can you prove he wasn't saved. Or do you put your self in the place of God. If you read Isa.14:14, that was Lucifer's downfall.
Only God knows the heart; why do you presume to know the hearts of men. Why do you judge your brother when you don't even know the brother you are judging. That is the height of arrogance (the same pride that caused Lucifer's fall). Yes, the man in 1Cor.5 had committed fornication of the worst type--such as was not even mentioned among the unsaved idolatrous Gentiles--and yet he was still called a brother in the Lord. He was still saved. That is proof positive that a Christian can commit any sin and still be saved. That brother did not lose his salvation, his "eternal live." How can "eternal" become "uneternal?" Good question, eh?

If God has removed our sins from us and cast them into the depths of the sea, how can it be said that we can commit the same sins that have been removed?

One might say we can go fishing...

A true Child of God is not going to fish for sin, but will love and seek after righteousness.

Yes I can, he was a fornicator of his father's wife. Even Paul knew he was not saved. Seems like we discussed Lucifer before.

Oh, I see. He was a fornicator of his father's wife but that don't show he was not "saved", but Paul calling him a brother, shows he was saved.
Now, how can you reason with that kind of logic?

if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. That is what Paul called him a "fornicator". It was some of the others calling him brother.

What does this verse mean Bob?

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

It means it is possible for "a brother" or Christian to be any one of the above mentioned things. Paul said it was possible. He said (for the purpose of maintaining purity in the church) to discipline such and not to keep company with them. But Christ himself kept company with such sinners. We are too. We are to witness to them, and bring them to Christ. Isn't that our oblgation. Otherwise, what is the meaning of this verse Bob? Do you mean to say that you would never, never, associate with one who is covetous and try to win him to the Lord? Really?

No, if the man were saved, Paul would have instructed the church to deal with the issue in a different order. Since Paul received his teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ, Paul would have instructed the Corinthians as Christ did...

But Paul did not instruct as Christ would have if the man were saved. On the contrary, he instructed, 'Therefore, put away from among yourselves that wicked person.'

A Christian cannot be wicked, so therefore the man could not have been saved at that point.

if he was referred to as a brother then he infact is a child of God. I think only people that will be in heaven is Bob according to the Gospel of Bob by the grace of His Blood Spoke My Name..lol
According to this heresy, I would never have assurance of salvation and doubt God (which is a sin). Oh yea how the heck am I gonna trust God when I am working like a slave to keep my salvation. Oh thats right its a gift from God. I dont why people want to twist scripture to justify that they are perfect and no one else will go to heaven unless they meet their standards. JESUS ALREADY MEET GOD's STANDARDS FOR ME!

    1 Corinthians 5
    Immorality Defiles the Church
1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife! 2 And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3 For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed. 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Where does it say this man was a "brother"? Paul commands that he be removed from the church because this kind of behavior will defile it. It also says that he "may be saved". If he was already saved, he must have lost his salvation and needed to be saved again.

    Not funny!

Assurance of salvation. While you said you were capable of any sin and you want assurance of salvation. get real!

It was Paul that wrote that Scripture. It was Paul that said: If any man keep company...with a brother. It was Paul that referred to that entire class of beople as "brethren," a term used only in the sense of those that are born again, or sometimes our actual physical brothers and sisters, which they obviously were not.

Strange how we pick what we leave out of the scripture.

    Amen, Amy!

The Scripture only says the man was among them, and Paul clearly said 'for the destruction of the flesh that the spirit might be saved...'. The man had not been saved at that point.

Therefore, put away that wicked person.

This "brother" is referred to in other chapters, and also in 2Cor. The salvation spoken of here is a physical salvation. His spiritual salvation was secure. He was about to be cast out of the church, where there was spiritual security, and into the world where he could be spiritually devoured. Not that he could lose his salvation, but that he could encounter death by the judgement of God, and by the hand of ungodly individuals. The goal of such discipline is always to bring the individual back to repentance. That goal was attained, if you read carefully 2Cor.7
He is inferred as a brother in verse 11 of chapter five.

deliver such a one to Satanfor the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

This verse is talking about his flesh being tormented or destroyed not his soul or spirit...
:praying: people see the truth and stop denying the power of the blood of God-The forgiveness of past, present and future sins...
