Ann,

Here is a website that creates non-alcoholic wine. As you can see, great tasting wine does not need alcohol. It's not that the alcohol makes it taste better but the alcohol needs to be removed without damaging any of the fermented flavors created of the grapes during the process of removal.

You can have your great wine and great testimony too!

Does it really taste like wine?
Yes. We make ARIEL from some of the best premium grapes grown in California, including cabernet from the Napa Valley and many other varietals from Sonoma, Paso Robles, Monterey and the Delta. Even the sparkling wine is made from chardonnay and pinot blanc grapes - the traditional grapes of the finest champagnes. Some of the wines are aged in small oak barrels and all are fined and filtered according to the best traditional methods. Then, just before bottling the wine, we filter out the alcohol from the wine.

Why are ARIEL non-alcoholic wines considered the World's Best?
ARIEL is the only gold medal winner against wines with alcohol. In 1986, professional judges at the Los Angeles County Fair awarded ARIEL Blanc a gold medal against wine with alcohol. This category consisted of several table wines, including a well-known chardonnay from the central coast region of California. ARIEL non-alcoholic wines have won 8 medals against wines with alcohol in blind tastings conducted by professional judges. ARIEL is currently the recognized leader in non-alcoholic wines in 22 countries.

What is non-alcoholic wine?
Non-alcoholic wines are distinctly different from grape juices and other non-alcoholic beverages. ARIEL makes wine with alcohol from premium varietal grapes, ferments them to dryness, then removes the alcohol through a cold filtration process. This allows the consumer to enjoy the pleasure and nuances of a fermented beverage without the alcohol.

When is ARIEL enjoyed?
ARIEL is enjoyed with any meal, at any time; wedding receptions, company parties, wedding and baby showers, business lunches, proms, parties with friends, celebrations, brunches, banquets, at home or dining out.

With todays God given technologies one has no need to consume alcoholic wines.

I also did some research on non-alcoholic beers. Found many varying opinions. Some loved a certain brand and others hated the same brand. But all seemed to find the taste in one brand or another that they personally desired. There are quite a few choices to pick from.

So there again, those who say they want the taste need only do a bit of sampling. There is no reason to flirt with the drug nor create a stumbling block for those watching.

I am confused. For those drinkers here claiming that that the early Christians were drinkers like themselves, why did Paul have to tell Timothy to drink for his stomach? Wouldn't Timothy already be getting his liquor through the purported regular consumption you claim for them?

The first Christians during the Apostles time understood the warnings concerning wine. They possibly did not want to take the chance of becoming merry on it so they choose to not drink even a little bit. Paul told them to go ahead and drink a little bit to ease an upset stomach.

I think my stomach is feeling a little queezy right now.

Ann,

Here is a passage to help you understand what the scriptures mean by "merry" when it speaks of wine.

1Sa 25:36And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart [was] merry within him, for he [was] very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

Oh so you mean that he was happy and enjoying life because he was drunk? Those are two different terms. You've just showed me that "merry" does not mean drunk.

Maybe you haven't found a good tasting non-alcoholic wine, don't know how hard you tried, but you are still missing the fact that the alcohol does not make it taste better. Remove the alcohol from your favorite wine and it will taste even better than with the alcohol.

Diet Coke has the "sugar" removed. Sugar is a "good" tasting ingredient. Alcohol is not a "good" tasting ingredient. The comparision is bunk.

Nope it's not. Non alcoholic wine is a different substance.

Then why are we having a debate about getting drunk on wine? Alcohol causes "intoxication".

Water also causes intoxication. Does that mean water is a toxin too?

No, it is not pure alcohol. About 20% alcohol content.

Actually, it's more like 40% alcohol content for bottling. The remainder? It's water. So it's not like there is a lot of "flavor enhancing" there.

You see Ann, you have no understanding of the scriptures use of the word "merry". You made up your own definition.

So you're saying "merry" is a code word for "drunk"? I don't see that the case in the context or useage of the words.

Ann, you have shown that you do not understand what the bible means by "merry". Ask a few people you know and trust what it means.

You mean ask those who are against alcohol what it means. No thank you. I'll go to the scholars instead.

Not sure why you would abstain from alcohol if you believe it is a gift from God.

Well, sex is a gift from God but I abstained until I was married.

How would you be a stumbling block if you explain to them that alcohol is God's gift for responsible grown ups? It could be an opportunity for you could show them how it is to be consumed correctly and set a good example for them to follow. Of course you will have to tell them that they must first hit that majical number of twenty one.

Shouldn't they know the truth? And shouldn't we all practice what we preach?

Maybe you should read 1 Corinthians 8 to find out the answer. God gave man many things but sometimes, a weaker brother or sister can stumble because of something we do so we must be careful around them. Yes, I will teach about responsible alcohol consumption and in some cases, that will include counseling someone to not partake at all because of family history or health reasons. But I certainly will not tell someone of age to not drink because it's sinful since it is not. But it might not be wise for them.

Psa 104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

Psa 104:15 And wine [that] maketh glad the heart of man, [and] oil to make [his] face to shine, and bread [which] strengtheneth man's heart.

It appears to be a "good" thing here doesn't it?

Glad, merry and drunk all appear to be synonymous terms used in conjunction with wine throughout the scriptures.

What make you of this?

Let's take a look to see if the Hebrew word here that is translated as "glad" really means "drunk":

Exodus 4:14 "And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, [Is] not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. "

So Aaron will be drunk when he sees him?

Leviticus 23:40 "And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days."

So we're to be drunk before the Lord our God for seven days?

Deuteronomy 12:7 "And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee. "

Again, we'll eat and be drunk before the the Lord?

Judges 9:19 "If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, [then] rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you: "

Not sure how this even says anything about being drunk.

There are a bunch more passages but none of them give an indicator of being drunk. Judges 9:13 even says that wine cheers God's heart too - using the SAME Hebrew word as "merry". Hmmm - kind of shoots down the "synonym for drunk" idea, doesn't it?

I've tried Ariel wine when I was pregnant. It was terrible. But I will not even drink non-alcoholic wine right now because of my ministry. If it looks like it, will others check the alcohol content of my glass to find out what I'm drinking? No. That's why I won't even have a drink when we're out that LOOKS like an alcoholic beverage like a virgin drink. I'll instead usually drink water or a Coke.

I got busted last week because I had a bottle of IBC Root Beer. Since it comes in a brown bottle someone thought it was beer I had in my hand. Guess it's back to the canned Root Beers then- although it's just not the same, sigh!

GE:
Steaver, it obviously is the privilege of VERY few people. And what about all those who lived before "today's God given technologies"?

How 'green' are these technologies? At what cost to God's given creation - unacceptable cost it seems -, are these 'wines' manufactured?

Has it only now become sinful to drink the old stuff?

What about the 'merriness' which is the result of 'old' or usual, 'wine'? Can one still obey God in that respect when drinking the technologically advanced wine?

Apparently wine judges found it very good, unless Ariel is lying and I wouldn't think that would be good for business.

It seems then we are in agreement, although you don't realize it.

Let me ask you a question.

Do you believe all Christians should have a ministry to do for Christ?

It might be good for a non-alcoholic wine but it's not good as wine.

No. You say drinking a drink is a sin. I do not agree with that.

Yes, all Christians should have a ministry to do for Christ but being in ministry does not mean that you MUST abstain from alcohol. Culturally we need to be aware of what's going on around us and act accordingly to not allow one to stumble. In parts of Europe, to take a tea-totaling stance would make one stumble and thus many missionaries partake along with their congregation.

Ann, you need to forget the wine for a little while and move around the board a little. :wavey: Your expertise is need in keeping tabs on crude remarks and holding some of the individuals responsible accountable.:smilewinkgrin:

Too bad you weren't around in Daniel's time to set him straight for refusing his host's offer of liquor. I mean, culturally those four Hebrews should have been aware of what was going on around them and acted accordingly.

I don't think they drank wine of what we know it, fruit juice was called wine, I mean Jesus had no sin, and the bible says, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and who-soever is deceived thereby is not wise." prov. 20:1
Therefore, I don't think they partied, God in the flesh, was holy, without sin....
