Witnessing on the job

Back in SC I remember a man carrying gospel tracts with him in his shirt pocket while at work, and he would pass them out to people that asked, or people that wanted them. Such a person would probably get fired in liberal Colorado or perhaps not. Perhaps I need to call a christian law firm and ask them the question about how to witness on the job. Or do we have any lawyers on this site that could answer this question?

I show up on time, work OT when offered, and do my job. However there is a hindu at work that I am friends with. I want to offer him a apologetics gospel tract but I also want to keep my job. I mean since I am friends with him, and if he gladly accepted the offer, what would be the harm? In SC it would be okay, but since there are so many God hating liberals in Colorado, it may cost me.

Evangelize all you want on lunch/breaks. When you are on the clock, don't.

street preaching can cost you also.

On the one hannd, you could be reprimanded...overlooked for raise or promotion...fired...

On the other hand, you could be mocked...harrassed...arrested...murdered...

To live is Christ, to die is gain. Right ??

The problem is that when you accept employment you need to live up to your end of the deal. Your form of evangelism is, by my understanding, confrontational. If it reflects some of your conversations on this board, then it has a potential for being disruptive from an effective work environment.

My suggestion would be to live in such a way that your action draws attention to a godliness. Lost people may not recognize this as Christ in your life, but many will recognize that you have something that they desperately need. Give to your employer what is due, never speak bad about your boss, always uplift your wife, do not cause strife….etc. This may provide an opportunity to share the gospel when you are not “on the clock.”

Anyway, that’s my two cents.

So far I have only evangelized while off the clock after I punched out for the day. But even that may cost me.

Quite correct. But God will provide even if it costs me. I have been cussed out, some have threatened to throw punches at me, among other things.

Quite a statement. Tracts are great to use when you do not have time or they do not have time which is very common in our fast paced society.

I would agree with this. I have been a boss in Colorado and if one of my employees acted like Evan does on these boards while on the clock I would be writing him up. It would have nothing to do with his religion but have to do with disrupting the work environment and treating his fellow workers with disrespect.

By acting out my Christian walk I did have opportunities to talk to my workers about my faith, and I had an even finer line to walk since I was in a position of power. I never robbed the company of the time I owed them.

Considering the other thread that was closed Evan was walking a couple different fine lines, that as an employer would make me very nervous and the religious one is the least of those lines I would worry about.
