Women in Combat

We'll see what actually happens. Women have been allowed in combat for decades. They weren't allowed in certain units and doing certain jobs (combat arms). The decision today did not really change that.
According to the article on Foxnews.com
They have until 2016 to come up with exemptions, and the special operations units are admittedly going to be an issue. In the end the policy may change but nothing will change in any practical way.
Now, should women be in those jobs and those units? My bride is an Army veteran. She is intelligent, capable, and strong. I know many other tough ladies who have served. My last unit supported 1 field artillery battalion and 2 combat engineer brigades. They have no women troops. At one point we had 3 women, and they were in my section. There were real logistic issues to be considered just to go to gunnery twice a year, for 3-4 weeks each. Also, even though women are perfectly capable, they would be taking unnecessary risks and placing others in danger? Why?
1. What do you do if she gets pregnant?
How do the men treat her in that condition?
She is no longer a combat multiplier.
People are less safe and the mission is at risk.
2. What if she gets captured?
The danger she faces is more than a man, for obvious reasons. She would not only endure the trauma of capture, but also rape.
How do the men react when their sister has to endure that?
People are less safe and the mission is at risk.
The military does not exist for social engineering experiments.

My take on this is America has a lack of real men today and that is why women are now having to step up to fill the role of a man in many places throughout society. Same thing in denominations who allow women to preach. IMO this country is doomed, not because women are in charge, but because too many men are little boys. I see it everyday in my job. Look around when you are in your community and take notice of all the twenty year old men that are not employed, no car, no desire to work, want the Government to support them or their girl friend to drive them around town and to the store for their cigarettes and beer. They wear pajamas and will not look anyone in the eyes, have no respect for authority. This is where our country is heading and I'm very worried.

Depends on how you look at it

What will prevent you from joining?
Weight 185 lbs (for a man 5/10" - why is weight so important - passing your PT test should be the main issue. You can be kicked out the Army for being overweight - unless you unit is being sent into combat.
Education - no more than 10% may join without a HS diploma. Why - you must take the GT test - that will tell you what skills you would be best at in the Army - granted you must have at least some reading and writing - but many successful soldiers were DRAFTED into the Army
Actually, I think the Army puts too much emphasis on education.
Tattoos - you may be rejected for tattoos
I understand some limits are needed - ie - racist, sexist, ect
minor court actions - ok, so a young kid gets into trouble - that should not mar him from military service.
Keep in mind - policies vary from service to service.

Not saying I discount those who never serve - but knowing the background does give a perspective.
Myself - served over a decade on Active Army - then 8 years in State Guard - ended up as an E-7

I work for a military recruiting service, there are many things that will keep you out of the military, but I see many young men every week that don't want in. They want a woman to provide for them. Pay attention to all the young men who have their girlfriend drive them around, and pay for their meals while they play video games and such. I see it all the time. Makes me sick.

If they can keep up and hold their own, I don't care and welcome them to the front.
let them serve everywhere anywhere. then let's watch the policy makers and social engineers bite and swallow their tongues when the casualties mount up.

Sorry, I want a woman in a foxhole about as much as I do in the Pulpit. God made women and men for different roles and placing women at the front of the battle lines isn't what God had in mind. This is just another move by the left to ruin the family values in America.
Maybe we need the draft again - and if need be - put draftees in seperate Basic Training companies

I was a union ironworker erecting structural steel for 20 years beginning in the late 1960s. We used to say 'if it was easy our wives would be doing it.' In the early '70s we had to quit saying that. The government invoked anti discrimination policies and women began coming into our apprentice programs.
Many of us did not like this innovation but we lived with it. Very few women came into ironwork in my experience and of those that did none that I saw could really cut it physically. I hate to see females in combat roles but looking at the social agenda of this administration it seems par for the course.

Several years ago, a female became a Air NG pliot for the 174 th out of Syracuse. The unit had been know for years as "The Boys from Syracuse" . Well that female decided she did not like the unit nickname. She enlisted the help of Sen Hillary Clinton. Well, the unit is no longer authorzied to use the term "Boys"
BTW, the nickname was inspired by the play of the same name

In that case, I have not served in the US armed forces.
