Thanks, but don't leave out the rest of my point: both dresses and pants can be modest or immodest.

And to share a little more about myself than maybe I should - personally, in general I think dresses are more of a "turn-on" than pants. There has been much talk on this thread of hips, etc., but bare calves below even a "modest" dress causes my thoughts to start to go where they shouldn't. Jeans? No problem. Dresses create more of a struggle for me.

    Brian,

I've already said in previous posts that short, tight, skirts are immodest. The rest of your statement did not qualify the fact that you said form-fitting bodysuits are immodest.

I was not talking about short, tight skirts.

With an exclamation point for emphasis. You are telling us you were at least very stubborn about it. You are also implying that anyone else who refuses to give up slacks is stubborn![Helen]

"I was adamant about it! And no, I was not implying that anyone else who refuses to give-up pants is stubborn; that is your perception.

What I felt was a terrific waste of bandwidth in the Baptist forum was the issue on whether or not a christian should drink. [I believe even you partake of the vine].

Pastors should preach on this and so much more! I thank the Lord Jesus Christ that He gives us men who have great fear before God, 'tho they be few.

Yes, I know it got locked, reopened, etc; I see a lot of posts on here that later disappear & I see many good folks who leave...

What happened to discussions of Christian character? What happened to discussions of dealing with difficult situations in a Christian way, so we could encourage and build up one another? [Helen]

"There's plenty of nonsensical threads out there that you could more easily apply this to but you won't.

    Brian T,

Sorry, but the advertisers know what turns most men on and rakes in the most dough, and it's not calves barely visible below a modest skirt line. [IMG]

As has been said before, some men will lust no matter how modestly a woman is dressed.

Perhaps you should read the rest of this thread.

I have asked you to explain this, but I have been ignored.[Thankful]

"I apologize for not answering your question, but I felt in my heart, you weren't really interested in the answer...(something I've learned folks do a lot here).

Thanks, but life's too short already. I have no desire to waste more of it by reading 17 pages of people trying to be someone else's conscious.

Gotta run. My wife wants some new slacks for Christmas. ;)

I am one pastor who preaches on this subject. It's not a popular subject to preach, but then again, neither is hell but it must be done.

All truth can be received if it is preached in love. It has to be "Thus saith the Lord..." instead of "Thus saith the preacher..." (See my post one page 1 for biblical references)

I've had to address this issue twice in 2 1/2 years in church and once in our teen department. Both have been by requests made from a parent of a young lady. I've not lost any members over this issue.

I preach Biblical modesty and the church folk see it displayed on myself and my family and many other folks in our church. It has never been made a requirement for membership or salvation.

I have never condemned a female visitor or a church member for wearing pants; nor have I ever praised a woman unduly for wearing dresses when I knew the inside wasn't right.

Putting on a dress doesn't make a woman a better Christian nor does wearing pants make her less of a Christian. The clothing of a Christian ought to be righteousness (Job 29:14), humility (I Peter 5:5), and the garments of salvation (Isa. 61:10). When the inside is right, the outside will desire to reflect the holiness that is on the inside.

God is concerned about how you and I look and dress. I would be neglecting my responsibility as Pastor if I failed to warn my ladies and teen girls about the dangers of immodesty.

If I must err, I want to err on the side of modesty.

Well, PastorBob, praise God for a preacher/pastor with backbone! And your very last sentence is exactly how I feel about my life & what I believe in(the KJBible, my salvation, the way I talk, act, etc). I don't know how to say things intellectually, but you sure do.

If I ever get rich & can travel around the States, I'd like to visit certain churches & yours would be one of them.

But I put it in intentionally.

Femininity, masculinity are both to do with sexuality.

I went back and reread my post and I don't know how I gave you the impression that I was not really interested in the answer.

I just thought that you would want to share the wonderful changes with us, especially to those that might feel the conviction to wear dresses only.

Perhaps you have this attitude because you know from my posts that I do not feel the need or the conviction to change my manner of dress. There may be others that do want to change to dresses only, and your explanation might help them.

Let's speak the truth in love.

I have somewhat to say about how this discussion has gone. I have seen HCL, Keeper, Granny, and others maintain an exemplary spirit throughout this thread. Yes, there are times that they have reacted to the relentless provocation and ridicule hurled at them from the "other side," but by and large, the dress camp has come out of the crucible somewhat more Christlike now for the experience.

I exclude myself from that because 1) I'm not sure where to draw the line yet, and 2) I allowed myself to be provoked.

I thought and prayed about this this evening. I have not seen one person say that wearing loose, long skirts is a sin, but I have seen others express reservations about pants on the basis of immodesty. If we were to go to the Apostle Paul and ask him how to resolve the issue, what would he say? I think he would say, "Submit yourselves one to another in the fear of God. If thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat for whom Christ died, because when you sin so against a brother, you sin against Christ. If meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. Walk in love. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."

Jesus said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

This is indeed a high calling. I must examine myself. Would I really be willing to give up, say, wearing shorts and all the comforts they provide for the sake of my brother in Christ? Am I willing to give up television, movies, sports, the Internet simply for the sake of my brother in Christ?

Funny, I glanced at the book I took off my shelf to quote from in another thread. It's a biography of a truly great and godly woman, Amy Carmichael. It's called "A Chance to Die."

"Greater love hath no man than this..."

I look into my heart and I don't like what I see, but I must say this, if I insist on indulging my own whims and desires however nebulous and innocent they may be despite the wounds they inflict on the consciences of my brothers, I cannot say that I am walking in love.

I am not fulfilling the law of Christ.

Some have said that this is such a small thing and not worthy of the nearly twenty pages of bandwidth it has taken up. Some have said we should focus on more important issues. Well, I say, "Amen, sisters! Lead the way! Show us it is of no importance by discarding your pants in favor of skirts."

Takes on a whole different light now, I think.

I'm finished with this thread. I have some serious thinking to do. Am I truly willing to lay down my life for my friends? Would I truly want to bear another's burden? Can I see my life as Amy Carmichael saw hers--as a Chance to Die?

    Brother Aaron,
Thank you for that well thought our presentation. I also appreciate your kindness and encouragement.

You were exactly right to say that I was put through the crucible. I say, Amen as that is exactly what the Lord was teaching me through this. The Lord has revealed to me sins that I had not seen before through this. And for that I am thankful.

I would be interested to hear the conclusions that you and your wife come to after your season of praying about this. Of course through a pm.

Howdy Granny Gumbo, thanks for the warm welcome. [IMG] For me, wearing britches had been a rebellious thing. When I was ready to let God show me how to live my life, and to really obey the bible, I knew it was time to give up slacks. For me jeans and trousers are a symbol of my rebellion. I have to let go of my rebellious attitudes in order to genuinely let the Lord lead me, instead of just going off willy-nilly head strong on my own. Skirts are a symbol of my willingness to die to self.

Miss Maggie~I don't know that I wore pants as a sign of rebellion, but more out of "convenience", or so I thought! I did fight giving them up, but when I submitted unto the Lord, oh what a peace!

The first time I wore a pair of peddle-pushers to town, I remember feeling strange. This was back in the '60s when women in the south were still pretty much wearing dresses.

I didn't wear slacks to church, no matter how "dressy" they were, but I always wore them around the house, & eventually they were a way of life.

When the Lord started dealing with the daughters about this, I began reading my KJBible more deeply. I also found Baptist websites who taught this; also the hair. (I liked to keep mine short because of my round face, plus raising 6 children & tending to my sickly mama, it seemed easier.)

I realize now I had been brainwashed into believing all this about pants/short hair being easier, because, honey, I can honestly tell you, that my life's a breeze now! I have truly & thoroughly enjoyed these past 4 years!

My only regret is I wish I had known all this earlier in my life & could have taught it to my girls. My daughters-in-law think we are bonkers, but yet they leave their precious homes/babies, neglect their husbands, all the while wearing their britches, going to the barbershop, & catering to another man(the boss), and then wonder why they are soooo miserable!

There is not anything I have been unable to do while wearing my long flowing skirts & I have had a ball! Even at my age, I'm called "dear kind lady", "sweet ma'am", doors are held open, etc; & gentlemen do a double-take when I wear my camouflaged ones, haha!(Didn't get that in my pants!)

I am l@@king forward to visiting your website & studying some more on the headcovering. Thanks for coming my way!
