HCL, I'm really happy for you that you have found the way that is best for you in your relationship with God. I'm totally sincere about that. But I don't like being judged by you, which is implicit in your posts when you know that I, and a lot of other wonderful Christian sisters, wear jeans and go horseback riding and running and swimming and climbing ladders...

I like working hard. I have actually liked it since I was in high school or maybe even before. It may be my way of rebelling against bad legs [IMG] . I don't know.

Jeans (generic) are inexpensive and last a very long time (years) and don't get tangled up in my legs or blow up in the wind or drag in a mess I lean down to clean up on the floor...

If you do all those things in a skirt or dress, that's really admirable. I can't. I won't. I like my dresses and I don't want to ruin them.

I also like the feeling of freedom to really get in and get the job done in jeans or overalls and then come in and take a shower and put on something lovely with fresh hair and makeup. Maybe I'm schizophrenic that I like being both kinds of people?

I do know this, that what I do, I do as unto the Lord. And I like people to feel comfortable around me. In this town, that means jeans. Not necessarily sloppy or ugly, but with a fun top or sweater. I wore an ankle length denim blue dress the other day when I took my daughter to the doctor's for a check on post-surgical stuff. On the way home we stopped at Safeway for a quick shopping so I wouldn't have to waste gas going downtown again. In the store where everyone knows everyone I got twice "You getting fancy on us?" and "Where was the funeral?" That that was blue denim!

This is California. This is hill country/horse country/deer country. A river runs through it -- several of them, in fact. We have weeds with little itsy bitsy seeds that stick all over you, and manzanita with thorns and poison oak -- and I plan to be well-covered when I'm out there. A dress does NOT do the trick!

God bless you the way you are, but please do not judge everyone by your interpretation of what the Bible is saying. I have never been mistaken for a guy, so I guess I'm doing something right!

The title was "Women wearing pants are in sin" To this I have to disagree as far as it being a "sin"
We are however, as Christians commanded not to be stumbling blocks to weaker Christians or to those who do not know the Lord as their Savior. God's Word does teach us that women are to dress like women and men like men.
Modern day pants or more specifically jeans, were originally designed for men working in mines and various other jobs that required rugged inexpensive clothing (paraphrased from Encyclopedia Brittanica)
Even the lost expect Christians to be different from them and we need to "come out from among them and be separate" Jesus calls us to be holy becaus he is holy. Being holy is not a matter of choosing between the bad and the good, it is a matter of choosing between the good and the best, and choosing the best.
When I notice a woman in a grocery store, Walmart, or wherever it is because she is wearing a dress or a nice skirt, she stands out and I automatically start to wonder where she goes to church, she may or may not be a Christian but she is dressing like one.
We are to be peculiar people...to stand apart from the world, not to try and blend in and be a part of it.

Boys and girls! Boys and girls!

Behind all of those physical commands are spiritual ramifications and meanings. This is what I do and what my wife does and what our children do---we dress on the outside as close as we can in physical appearance to that "glory" which is on the inside!--you want to go around naked like those heathen that hung around those Isrealites--that sends me a message that "the inside is naked of the glory!" Your brain is also naked of its glory if that be the case!

God was tellin' those Israelites to dress that way to show the rest of the world around them that "the glory is on the inside of us!!"

    Your friend,

Ladies, the last thing I want to do is to offend anyone but as christians we are to reprove and rebuke with all long suffering. If you take a post as a personal judgement, maybe it is but not from us.

If you have no problem wearing pants that's fine. But I charge you that if it is okay for your to wear pants, then I say to you put your husbands and sons in dresses. If you say well that's not right, that's absolutely right. If it is not right for the male gender to wear dresses then it is not right for the female gender to wear pants.

In 1Cor11 it talks about men and women's hair, then it says in vs14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? I would think this applies to dress as well.

While wearing pants may not be outright said it is sin, it is abomination. After all that has been posted to support this, James 4:17 does apply, Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Do any of you gentlemen from the UK who wear kilts want to comment on this question.
Are you committing an abomination when you wear your kilts?

Webster's Definition of kilt; any short, pleated skirt, esp. tartan wraparound as that worn by men in the Scottish Highlands.

Sorry but according to the definition, this particular item of clothing distinctly pertains to a man. Each culture has clothing that pertain to a mand and that which pertains to a woman. Duet 22:5 still apply to all people.

Did you bother to find out what this is? Di you read the discription in the bible? They are underwar, worn under the clothes, and they were onkly for priests.
Find out what the bile says they are and who they are for.

One of the biggest problems is is that they do just that, and the rest of us are disobedient heatherns going to hell. I'm getting pretty sick of this constant self righteousness.

If your clothing makes you a woman, your in trouble.

    Jesus didn't mind it.

My son has. We live in an area that was settled by scottish, so it is predominately scottish, and at Heighland Games time of year, everyone is scottish.

Seems to me I've seen a lot of taking scripture out of context with no thought given to proper bible study and interpetation. As in what were the breeches named in the bible, no one cares what they are as told in the bible, what was their purpose and who was limited to wearing them, not men, but priests only. So even men were not allowed to wear them, unless they were a priest. Does no one care about that. It's the bible not me.

What you wear make you no more or less holy, that comes from JEsus alone. So stop making it sounds as if your some wonderful holy person, based on what you wear, when the bible says man looks on the outside, God looks on the heart. Which means to me, your opinions aren't God's.

    Just a couple of thoughts:

    1. 1 Timothy was written by Paul to instruct Timothy how to behave in the house of God. If the Vines definition is really accurate, it would specifically apply to corporate worship.

    2. The point of the Deut. passage is that a man should not look like a woman and vice versa.

My wife does not have a military crew cut in regards to her hair. She does not work out to build up her muscles (she doesn't at all but some women look unnatural). She doesn't wear athletic clothes that make her look boyish/manly. She looks feminine in everything she wears. She will never be mistaken for a guy. Arguing that pants make will make a girl look like a guy is no different than arguing that shirts make a girl look like a guy. How many women want to toss their blouses and other shirts?

This has become a personal attack session for those who have a different belief, as is the case in most personal issues within the Bible. Bible verses have been given to support ones belief. That is their documentation to support their convictions one way or the other.

It is simply a matter of what you believe and if the verses given do not affect or convict you then so be it.

Well! Not only is the Roman church a false church, but it turns out they are forcing all their schoolgirls to commit an abomination. [IMG]

    Dear Katie,
No one said that you are a heathen headed for hell because you wear pants. Atleast, I know I did not write that and I do not believe it.
I went my first nine years as a Christian wearing pants and other clothing that is not modest. I feel like I am having to defend myself and I am trying not to do that. Because I am here to please the Lord. And since the question was asked about apparel I answered. I would love to see all Christian women wear modest and feminine clothing. I am hear to teach those who are willing to listen about why women should wear modest and feminine apparel.
Please I ask those who choose to wear pants to not read this if it angers you so much. This is for those ladies who are seeking in this area and would like encourgement. This is not intended to make those who wear pants angry IT IS INTENDED FOR THOSE WHO ARE SEEKING ABOUT WEARING DRESSES ONLY. I REALLY WANT TO ENCOURAGE THOSE LADIES.
I know I have said this before if you are angered by such topics maybe it is best to read another topic. I am not telling you what to do, but just a suggestion. For instance there are topics here that are of no interest to me so I just move on and do not even read them.

My reply: Again, please quote where I have judged everyone by my interpretation of what the Bible says.

I understand that this is an issue with some people although not with me. I know ladies who fall on both sides. Let's discuss but please be nice and show grace to one another. It has been mentioned that it takes more than clothing to make a woman, I agree. One thing that demonstrates to me that a woman is a lady is her sweet and gentle spirit. I Pray that spirit will permeate this discussion and I trust that it will. [IMG]

My two girls are in private non-catholic christian schools, and they're both wearing tartans as we speak.

Interesting topic...we've all discussed it before. HCL,I respect your views very much and I see in you a heart that wants to serve God in every area of your life. Bless you. I think it takes great boldness in the Lord to actually desire to dress in a way that does set you apart at times, but when you are doing it for the Lord,it is a blessed thing....I know HCL does not view this as a salvation issue,so saying she said anyone was going to hell over it is a big stretch and a show of unneccessary anger.

What she is saying,I think,is that what is in the heart is shown in our actions...it is called living out the word...believers should be striving to do this at all times.

I wear dresses and skirts alot...I also wear pants...do I see a difference,yes...do I feel more feminine in a long skirt? Yes. Do I prefer my daughters in skirts and jumpers, yes. I have a friend that only wears dresses and her daughter only wears dresses and jumpers...they are precious and so feminie looking all the time. I think that is great! I appreciate that example before me and my girls.

A lot of the styles today are tight, tops and bottoms,so as women we should be always be mindful of attracting men to us through what we are wearing...does that rule out all pants? IMO,no...but I do agree with some here, that dresses are better choice.

I have been thinking on this topic for a while...there is an interesting book on www.visionforum.com called "The Undressing of America" that I am wanting to read soon.

    My wardrobe includes:
Long skirts, mainly long black or charcoal(I do have one that comes a little above the knee-) and I wear different color T-necks,sweaters,or tailored looking blouses.I wear boot cut jeans and pants occassionally, too. Sometimes I do feel unappropriately dressed when I have jeans on,but I guess selfishly,I like the way they look and feel.

I think everything we do should be as unto the Lord,so EVERYTHING is a spiritual issue, even what we wear. God sees the heart,be He also sees what we do as well as our attitudes. I think we should be always examining ourselves in light of what we learn.

And,my husband assures me,I could never be mistaken for a guy...but,I still want to be sensitive to this issue.

It says its a shame, not a sin...so...the difference, a man can have long hair without sinning....You asked, I answered.

As for the passage used to support those that believe women should only wear dresses, take a look at the culture it was written to....Different cultures have different things that show women as unclean, or what not....for example, aside from the dresses, (and this does apply Murphy) many women and men use a passage in Cor. to support that women should wear head coverings, but the fact is that in Corinth, a woman that didn't wear a headcovering was a prostitute, however, if you were to go to a different culture, a woman that didn't wear a headcovering wouldn't neccessarily be seen as a prostitute...

So, back to dresses, in different cultures dresses may be seen as the only modest apparal for their women to wear, but as those women who live in America, the culture does not see dresses as the only modest apparal for women to wear....

And those of you who say that dresses are more modest than some jeans, I'd have to disagree...if you want to talk about modest, a pair of jeans and sweatshirt is far more modest than a long dress with a low-cut neckline that shows inappropiate skin, or those dresses that are so skin-tight that they show any and all rolls a woman may have...how about a skirt, than is an inch or so down from your waist.....

The issue here is modesty, if a woman can dress modestly in a pair of jeans and a shirt/sweatshirt, then how is it that they are sinning, if they are within society's view of setting a woman apart from a man?

Oh this is just the topic I have been looking for!
This is my first post so bear with me.
My pastor says that women should wear dresses pierod. But on a cold day like today here I am in my basement in comfortabel jogging pants and a sweat shirt typing this to you all.
I would NEVER wear pants to church not only because my pastor doesn't agree but I like to get dressed up for the Lord.
I am faced with the issue, can I go out publically and wear pants or jeans????
I am a homeschooling mom and I do ALOT of activitles with my kids. I cannot imagine going to the park, climbing the ladders and the tunnels in a dress.
I am still up in the air about this subject. I truley don't feel a conviction to put on a dress to run errands and play with the kids and while I scrubb the floors, clean the bathroom, and wash the windows.
It so nice to find a BAPTIST board on the Net!
    Thanks
    DD
