Immodest (just like skirts that don't reach to mid-calf); they encourage men to have impure thoughts.

A friend of mine lived in Alaska with his parents growing up-one time there was a preacher from the lower 48 who went to Alaska and actually preached that women should not wear pants!!

It was 28 degrees below 0 there!!

When he told the story, it put a lot of things in perspective.

BTW, he lived in Alaska in the late 60s -mid 70s If I recall correctly

They people were amused and he looked like clueless

Not all men. You seriously mean that all men are turned on by seeing a woman's foot - or her knee?

Found this.

[Now disgraced] pastor Jack Schaap claiming that Jesus will know that people are listening to the Lord when they obey the preacher who calls for mid-calf skirts, closed toed shoes and sleeved blouses. He does get a bit worked up about it. "We're not here for a breast show."

"You say....whatever the pastor would like. That's how we know we're on the same page here."

Well, it didn't work for pastor Schaap, his son, several of his church staff, or church planters he sent out. Google "Pastor Jack Schaap scandals" and be ready to be sickened.

Just reporting Schaap's comments there.

Yes, sickening. And it appears he's not come to grips with the magnitude of his crime. Last summer his lawyer sought to have the sentence overturned because the 16-year-old was the aggressor ...

I listened to his tirade and wondered how in the world could thousands of church members put up with that and not just get up and leave.

That has nothing to do with fundamentalism

Well, no, fundamentalism is a set of beliefs in the fundamentals of the Christian faith. The movement arose in the early 20th Century as a response to the leftward drift of many Protestant denominations.

For some reason, however, the cultish nature of dictatorial pastors thrives in the fundamentalist environment. If you don't think so I suggest you study the life of Jack Hyles and his First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana.

I believe the reason for this kind of behavior is the relative unsophistication of the members in most fundamentalist churches. A cult leader cannot function in a congregation where the majority of the members are business owners and professional people. I'm not applauding these people for their elitist attitudes but it is a fact that you can't tell them what to do and expect them to follow.

I know all about Hyles including the hyped up claims about him. There are a lot of dictorial pastors around in all sorts of denominations.

This indicates that you do not agree with the "hype" and claims regarding Mr. Hyles because you know all. Would you share a little of what you know in defense Mr. Hyles in regards to the allegations being "hype". Not to derail this thread but as "the originator I have a little leeway". Thanks Kindly..

Terry.....as a fellow old school Baptist I must request that you stay clear of these skirmishes on many of these postings....they are not edifying.

Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of Jehovah to blaspheme....2 Sam 12:14

For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you, even as it is written. Ro 2:24

Uh, yes you did. However, I respect your right to remain silent. Matter of fact I really appreciate it, now that I think about it a bit more. ;)
