I wish I could have as well, I was traveling to Chicago for a meeting. What a great game though, I watched the video highlights online.

Was that header by Argentina in I think the first half a goal that was not counted? It looked like the keeper reached behind him after the ball crossed the line.

I wasn't really pulling for anyone, just wanted to see the game and see if all the hype was the real deal.

So what did you think after watching the world's greatest spectator sport?

The NFL doesn't start until September :praise:  So I will let you know then

It wasn't too bad. I don't think there is too big of a chance it will become my favortie sport anytime soon. I will prob watch a game once in awhile during the cup.

The popularity of American football pales in comparison to the popularity of soccer worldwide. Which is why I said "the world's" greatest spectator sport.

It is funny though to me. People complain about soccer being slow. Do you realize that soccer is the only game with continuous action? The funniest thing is that they usually compare to an action game like American football. Think about that. American football last three hours will less than 45 minutes of action. Talk about slow.

I think soccer is not well liked in America because people don't really understand the game. I would watch soccer any day over any other sport. And I will watch whatever sport is on. But soccer tops them all because I like the game, it is constant action with unparalleled skill and fitness required.

Thats wonderful. Does not mean I have to agree.

I will stick with American Football anyday.

But we are all welcome to our opinions.

For those having a look at soccer, may I suggest not bothering with the Euopean teams in the first round. The excitement is the the African and South American teams, as well as the underdogs.

The Europeans are boring at this stage.

My brother, I didn't mean anything negative towards you for not liking it. I was merely commenting on the international popularity vs the Americna dislike for it. Sorry for miscommunicating there.

It is estimated that there will be 35 billion viewers total for the world cup. Of course that means that people like me have already been five viewers (one for each match I haev seen), but the stat is still huge.

ESPN's Eric Wynalda referred to the Australian GK as the "Bill Buckner of Australia" after Japan's first half goal, during which a Japanese player appeared to have fouled the GK. Those of you who saw this, is Wynalda being too unfair? Is this analogy correct? Seems a bit misplaced to me, but I'm only an Olympics/World Cup soccer fan.

Just a quick moderator's note folks. No offense to anyone, but let's stick to World Cup play and not get sidetracked by "Soccer is popular" and "No it's not" stuff. We can (and have, and will again) debate that seperately. Thanks for understanding folks!

There was nothing wrong with the Japanese goal although many refs would have blown for a foul.

I was disappointed by the England-Paraguay game. A lousy ref who loooked like Mr Spock and all the excitement in the first 6 minutes; thereafter boredom. OK I know it was hot and humid but no excuses - we were lucky to keep our lead. And quite what Sven was doing taking Owen off so we effectively only had one man up front I have no idea - and Hargreaves!!! The man's a complete donkey!
