:sleep: Foolishness. You can't require me to do anything that I don't want to do. If I don't want you to drink in my house, you're not gonna drink in my house And if I don't want to officiate over the "marriage" of a gay couple, the government certainly can't make me.

Salty - should have checked the date on the article. As soon as I realized it was October 2014, I thought to myself, what's happened since then? And when I googled it, they were NOT required to perform same-sex marriages.

Man please. You have NEVER heard me stand in defense of same sex "marriage". How do you stand in defense as a right for something that does not BIBLICALLY exist?
Now I'm all for gay rights as long as they don't impede upon my rights. The government can have its taxes. But it can't MAKE me dishonor Christ.
But yet bakers, photographers, florists etc are forced to indulge in commerce with these perverts, so look for the clergy to be the target not far down the road - with the perverts gaining the inroads because somewhere/sometime it will become illegal for you to claim "Christian Values" as a religious exemption anywhere except your private home.
If the country lasts long enough expect the home to be off limits also!!!
I don't think it will come to that...the rhetoric will be there but I don't think the judicial muscle (which is the only way these things get done nowadays) is there.
You just can't force someone to do something like this. As a minister, if a couple comes to me to consider officiating their wedding I can say no for any number of good reasons. Nobody can sue me for not officiating their wedding. You can, perhaps, sue me for not officiating but I'm covered. Now, if your county requires you to register to do weddings, one of their stipulations might be you have to agree to non-discrimination to perform them...but you try that with our Muslim friends.
So I don't see anyone forcing a pastor to do this.

To be sent to prison for not officiating at a gay wedding has to be at least a misdemeanor. It has to be a criminal offense and it is not.
It is not even a civil offense. Pastors, ministers, priests, etc, refuse to marry couples for several social issues. Some will not marry divorcees or mixed race couples or mixed religion couples and other supposed incompatibilities.
Now it could become a crime if under the whole new genre of "hate crimes" it is determined to an act of hatred then maybe yes and even then it would have to be proven.
However the hate crime question would have to go all the way to the supreme court for a decision.
Personally I seriously doubt this could be concocted into a crime, but then again, you never know.
