First - would this "free" service - be for anything. If you got a "boo-boo" on your finger, could you go to the doctor for a free band-aid? Would the govt forbid some operations because they were too expensive and/or the patient too old/ terminial.
Way too many questions!

This is the reason I am a conservative progressive - I want to know answers BEFORE making changes!

Not for anything. Only for important things like if you would like to be more shapely or you have parts you don't think match your identity.

I see you've been hanging out at a typical community hospital ER again. Yes, if you're on welfare or just don't pay.

Yes. They already do that in many areas. We had people walk out of the cancer center every week because insurance and yes, Medicare, had rejected treatment plans. They also then have total control to squeeze doctors and hospitals to take less reimbursement. The docs respond by going into something else, offering silly services like botoxing women's faces. Hospitals cut and squeeze, use cheaper and dumber staff, limit services to profitable areas only.

Still, Salty, in our post modern world none of the people care about knowing if something will work. "Medicare for all" rolls off the tongue of a politician, especially if he has his sleeves rolled up, and tie loosened strategically, and also works the word "people" into the same speech. It's a winning issue and we're in trouble.

Medicare for all would cost anywhere from $25 trillion to $35 trillion over 10 years.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (notes that if the government chose to fund the program without targeting high earners, it would require choices equivalent to a 32% payroll tax or a 42% Value-Added Tax (VAT) across the board. If Americans would take a look at how much more people in other countries pay in taxes, they would see how bad socialism is. In Germany for instance they have a higher income tax than us. To top it off, they pay two taxes on everything they purchase. There's the provincial sales tax (like our state sales tax) and a Value Added Tax (national sales tax) on top of it all.

People in this country who support socialism have no idea how much it's going to cost them. That's because the socialists running for government offices intentionally leave that part out. They want people to believe the rich will be the ones taxed more to pay for all the "free" stuff they want to give you.
