you know, sometimes biracial children and/or black children "look" white when they are babies. How superficial to give one away because its color is different than your own. I understand that many deep and painful issues surround rape, but giving the child away because of race is ludicrious to this here tater.

Probably. How many black women or couples do you see raising white children?

This is partly why we participate in these sorts of polls.....in order to help us make the right decision IF we were faced with the situation in real life.

You aren't as likely to make the right decision if you don't determine now what that decision should be. Granted, this sort of an issue, if it ever came up in one's life, would lend itself to at least 9 months worth of thinking about it. But by then one is emotionally charged over it.

Its a good thing to decide NOW that race would not make one iota of a difference. Then, if that situation did come up in my life, it would be "easier" to stick to the decision Id already made.

So I don't think we can call all these responses just "nice platitudes." I believe thats being a little unfair to those who are honestly taking a stand in their mind before they would be facing it in real life.

Thank you bapmom, you make a lot of sense. We need to know what we consider the right thing so if he ever are faced with it we knows whats right. Sometimes the emotions at the time can get in the way and prevent us from doing the right thing. And not just in this situation but many areas of life.

Good point, just-want-peace . I, too, do not know what I would do. I answered that race would be a factor. By that, I mean it would be something to consider. It would not be a deciding factor but something that must be taken into consideration when looking out for the best interest of the child. I don't think I could ever reject my wife's child regardless of the circumstances surrounding his/her beginnings. Race would not be a faftor in how much I would love the child.

I''m sorry, but I have to laugh a little. My daughter WAS raped. The child would have been biracial, had she conceived, because my daughter is adopted. She is Taiwanese. She was raped by a Caucasian. So the child would have been more like us than she, our beloved daughter, is physically. Of course we would ALL have kept the baby had God seen fit to allow a conception.

so i ask now. why would this poll start? why would race matter at all? why would a decision have to made? shouldn't it already be made? if you're pro-life. keep the kid. if you're not racist, then why bicker about whether or not the kids going to come out white or black? i will label those of you who do believe race is a factor in keeping the baby, as racist. there's no way around it. some lady gets raped by an african-american, and she's white. and doesn't want to raise the kid cause it's not white. what the heck people? keep the kid. you brought it into the world. it may not have been your choice. but keep the kid.

gekko,

This poll was started by C4K beacause Glory-To-God stated in the abortion poll that race would be an issue, it had not been brought up prior to her post. When C4k and Johnv challenged her in this poll she claimed a "man" wouldn't understand so C4K ask the ladies to respond to see if it were true that only women would understand, we didn't and agreed it would not be an issue.

I am a woman and race would not matter (11)

I am a man and race would not matter (15)

I am a woman and race would matter (3)

I am a man and race would matter (2)

Apparently race is a only a factor to a very few.

There is a legitimate concern about the culture that a child is raised in. It may not be a strong factor but it is something to be cosidered. To not do so is not looking out for the best interest of the child. It is plain selfishness on your part to not do so. It would be racist to say that this is a deal breaker but NOT to merely take it into consideration.

I wonder if adopting a child of a different race then is also not looking out for the best interest of the child? Is that selfishness to adopt that child?
People do both all the time, and it is not selfishness to love your own child, and not want to tell it you don't love it becasue of it's race, or how you got it. I should not ever have to bow down and live according to some racists by giving away or not adopting a child of another race. I will not serve man's opinons like that and sacrifice my child, and his self esteme by saying I didn't love you enough to want you.

You know, as an after thought.
What of families that are bi racial? Parents of two different races? What of them and thier children? Do your opinion still stand with them also?

Good question there. I don't know in other States but here in Maryland, and in DC, I've seen a few black couples raising a white kid or two as their own, well-to-do Mercedes Benz driving black couples who genuinely love their white kids and did not have them only for the State stipends.

Artimaeus,

but the issue is not adoption. The issue is a pregnancy from a person of another "race." The race of an unborn child should not even be taken into consideration when contemplating whether or not to abort the child.

We just had a bi-racial couple in our church who recently had a child. (He's beautiful by the way...of course). Would you say that the race of the parents should have been considered before they decided to procreate?
