Thankfully our political system has not gone to a level where either candidate has said they would support a shift to a dictatorship (yes, I know Trump said he would be a dictator for 1 day, but context matters).
I agree (I know Trump's comments were taken out of context as well).America's government has three branches. Trump's comments are being misrepresented. At times, Trump tends to overstate or exaggerate or to joke.
A president cannot act as a dictator since the legislative branch controls the money for the executive branch and since the judicial branch also has a role in our government.
Sometimes the balance of power is permitted to be somewhat out of balance such as when a president attempts to legislate by use of executive orders. The legislative branch has sometimes failed in its duties by making vague, unclear laws and by leaving it up to unelected bureaucrats to create the regulations and rules for those non-specific laws. The judicial branch has sometimes tried in effect to legislate or make laws which is not its role.
At times, Trump tends to overstate or exaggerate or to joke. .
I guess you are not remembering of the many times Jesus used "truthful hyperbole."And, as a former English teacher, I hate to tell him, but there is no such thing as "truthful hyperbole".

I disagree that DT thinks we are “morons”. He thinks people like to be entertained.Even though I am reluctantly voting for Trump, this is one of the things that makes me not able to even listen to him at all. It drives me CRAZY.
Recently, I found out why he does this.
He explains this in his book, The Art of the Deal.
“People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration, and a very effective form of promotion.”
And there it is. He does it because he thinks we are morons and that this what we need/want to hear.
