This was fascinating. And honestly, it had nothing to do with Edwards' party affiliation. It's a tragic account of how a man (and his wife) became intoxicated with power, and turned his back on the truth, and those who were close to him (and her).
Wow. I was spellbound, stunned, and disgusted. And to think...for a season, he had a realistic shot at President.
Check it out. It's quite the long excerpt, and will take some time. But it's worth it.
And, the story really has nothing to do with D's or R's...rather, it poignantly reminds us that corruption via power is a dangerous, seductive, addictive entity. And that it can bring "great men" to ruin.
