I understand the idea that one person might value books over guns but Mr. King is missing the gravity of the situation.

I read a lot of novels. I went through a Stephen King phase back in the late 70's. He has an uncanny ability to create detailed characters . In this regard he is not overrated. For just about everything else he is, though.
He is definitely angry with Christians and almost always has a fundamentalist Christian as a caricature in his stories. It's tiresome.
He also has a propensity to have his main character be a writer. Wow, how hard it must be to describe those kinds of people.
A while ago I read 1963, King's time travel story about a man who tries to kill Oswald before he can assassinate Kennedy. Though lengthy, I did enjoy that story. Recently I read Mr. Mercedes (because, like 1963, it got good reviews) and it reminded me of why I quit reading Stephen King. It's a continual attack on morals, filled with depraved characters and evil doers. The "hero" is flawed and totally unlikeable.
What in the world does Maya Angelou have to do with this thread?

Firearms are not the only way to get your books back.
Also, you might harm yourself, a family member or someone else cleaning the firearm. It does happen.
I already have guns to protect and defend my books but I'll gladly take any unused ammo or once fired brass you're willing to part with.
Any caliber will do.
If anyone has any books they no longer need, I'll take 'em.

And 35,000 people are killed every year in vehicle accidents so you better just stay home.
Oh, but wait, 87 kids die every year in the bathtub (more than die from gun accidents) so maybe we should stop giving our kids baths. And just to be safe we better stop taking baths too.
Oh oh. Wait a minute (again). People die at home from falls, poisonings, fires, suffocation and choking, and drowning.
Maybe you shouldn't just stay home after all.
Maybe you should live under the bridge with the other trolls. You'll be nice and safe there.
When it does happen, it is due to the carelessness of the individual. It is not the fault of the firearm.
