This guy is nothing but a self serving politician.

Obama really doesn't get it.

Our troops are not a "photo op".

How do you figure it was a joke?

This is standard fare... put the prop people behind him - make sure that they nod their heads up and down at the right time...

If they were there to hear the President they would have been in front of Obama - not behind him.

They were props for Obama's photo op - it is such a natural part of Obama's world that he feels free to admit it.

Sorry, but I find it disturbing that the only emotion I've observed in Obama is smiles at the public and eye contact with his wife and children which appear to signal approval and acceptance. I remember other leaders, voices cracking, eyes watering....... addressing those who are bereaved of loved ones, those who have been disabled, lamed by war, addressing the public over the horrors of war and the burden our soldiers carry and the debt the nation owes for their willingness to sacrifice their lives in the service of our country. This president has had many opportunities to express some empathy and emotional connection with those who call him CIC....... but has given no evidence of human emotion or connection which I've seen...... and I try to seize every opportunity that MSM gives us to look for this. I look for what I'd like to see but find it not and instead I'm reinforced in my perception that he is a cold, hard, calculating man.

The response he made at townhall to children citing the benefits of a pace maker to prolong the life of their mother, who was in her 90's and otherwise good health and he thought the diagnostic tests which proved the benefit of the pace maker.... was too expensive to be considered under a national program of health care ...... the pace maker proving cheaper than the heart meds which the doctors would have tried with the possibilities of adverse effects on health, heart, and life. The pre-empting his remarks on the disaster at Ft. Hood with other remarks. On and on. Where was the grief over a woman who took primary care during much of his young life, his grandmother, who died during his campaign? If he is not narcisstic, he presents himself as being narcistic and arrogant, a man above others without connections beyond what serves him.

President Obama is not the first, and he will certainly not be the last, president to use our troops for a photo op. I seem to remember a president landing on an aircraft carrier...The military always makes a good backdrop for politicians (of both parties). So any attempt to make this look like a character flaw exclusive to President Obama is misleading. It seems to be a character flaw of many of our presidents. I don't believe Obama is more or less arrogant than any of the other recent presidents.

Sad, but true.

To each his own, but I'm 100% in disagreement with you on this. I think he's got even Clinton overshadowed as far as arrogance goes.

Since neither you nor me know either of those men personally, it is really hard to tell who is correct. It simply too subjective. That is why I simply say they are pretty much all the same. I see no "public" difference between Obama, Bush, or Clinton. They all act like the sun rises and sets because of them. What they are like personally, I don't know.

I'm not an Obama fan, but he does indeed have a witty sense of humor, and this was simply a joke. Nothing odd about it.
