Your children and Santa Claus

I'll join the group here! I NEVER felt my parents and grandparents were lying to me. A person and his family absolutely should do what they consider best. But I think there is an overblown fear of imagination and fun going on here.
We NEVER equated Santa with Deity with our kids.
They are grown and almost grown now and do not seem to have been scarred by Santa.
Of course, when they asked, about the age of six, "Is there a Santa Claus?"
We told them the truth! "Yes....(Virginia)!"
Then we told them about St. Nicholas of long ago. And how part is real and part is fun.
"And by the way, DON'T spoil the fun for your cousins!" To which they eagerly agreed.
But on the other hand, we never just talked about Santa ALL the time.

You have to read each individual child and treat him or her appropriately. Your parents lying or not is a lifetime pattern of relationship, not having some traditional fun. But yes, there are parents out there who have an inability to relate to and talk with their kids.
It will show up in far more than Santa.

Santa is not real. He is a fairy tale and something to be viewed as fun. But, my son is not going to grow up believeing in a godlike Santa Clause who see you when your sleeping, knows when your awake...etc...

He can have some fun with using his imagination and santa...but he is not going to believe in Santa.

I have personally never known anyone make Santa out to be godlike. But maybe I have not been around the right people.

 

He is all-seeing, all-knowing, punishes the wicked (lump of coal), and rewards the righteous (presents). I guess you have never heard the song "Santa Clause is coming to town"?

Sure I have neard the song.

I am saying I have never been around any parents that made Santa out to be godlike in how they dealt with their children.

Growing up I never related Santa to being godlike.

 

my mom did used to tell me "He's watching" when she wanted me to do something. She was not a Christian so I guess she had an excuse. I never do that with my children.
We have never actually told them that he comes and leaves presents, and they assumed last year that he comes and fills stockings (only)

To be honest, I have thought about the Santa being omnicient thing before and I dont want them believing that and then finding out it was fake (then assuming all amnicience isnt real). But so far, that has not been a problem. They know way more about God than they do Santa. They arent afraid of God either, and they are Santa.

 

WHAT! I wondered how those reindeer could really fly… Oh man, I wish you hadn’t told me that! Then what happened to the carrots and cookies? SOMEONE ATE THEM! Didn’t they? This year just isn’t going to seem as fun. But I’m glad we still get to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.

 

That is the way it should be....and if that is the case I see nothing wrong with Santa being a part of kids Christmas.
