Margo and El_Guero, Jim has his engineering degree and is a very intelligent man but he's never been too proud to do any job offered.

He was a State Representative in Connecticut and an Army Officer. We can only guess his previous income and his health and age keep him from even being interviewed for jobs he could do in his sleep.

It breaks his heart.

Thankful

Another way to phrase your question might be: Should we be satisfied with what we have or should we strive for more?

My answer would be to praise the Lord for what we have and not complain, but I do not think this means that we can not want more and seek with God's guidance for a better job, income, house and living standards.

I admire people who can live within their income. This seems to be a daily struggle for most people, no matter what their annual income is. The Lord blesses us in many ways.

I can relate to this person wanting a better job.

I am looking to take a part time job in sales so that I can move into the sales field ... and make ends meet ...

Good for you El_Guero.

I'd like to eventually be self supported by my writing. I tell people I know I don't need to ever get on the best seller list to be happy . .. but I wouldn't shy away from it if it happened. :D

Besides, the more I have the more I can give. I'd like to give my back to my parents some of what they spent on my college education. They don't expect it .. . probably wouldn't even dream of me doing it. But I'd like to if I could.

Yeah, I know. I personally prefer to give to individuals. I like to know who I'm helping, even if they don't know who I am.

Margo,

God is leading me to start a ministry for Widows and Orphans ... and you indicated:

And don't jump on my

"the mroe I have the more I can give" thing

Because I know all about the widow and her mite. Trust me. LOL

El_Guero, will you use the 1 Timothy 5 criteria for widows or, since you're not 'a church', will you be more broad based?

But, that is not what I based the 36,000 upon. I based it upon the median wage ... which is around 50k.

I figure that giving owners 28% off the top should be fair in any discussion.
Median wage here is only around $20,000

I do not see any problem with someone looking for a new job for more money. As long as God has not specifically told them not to.
Looking for a job is one thing, talling God His blessing wasn't ggood enough now do what I want is soemthing else.

It's not that this guy wanted a better job, he choose not to have a job becsue he couldn't get one in the right field, make what he thought was right.

Hmmmm . . . just because a job becomes available or is offered to you does not necessarily mean it is from God. :)

Just like the single person praying for a spouse . . . just because you meet someone doesn't mean that's the person God has picked for you.

And you know this man told God His blessing wasn't good enough because you were in his prayer closet when he did it???

If a Christian cannot pay his bills should he not endeavor to find a second job or a better paying job to honor that debt or just sit back like Adam and say 'that job you gave me, God, it doesn't pay enough for me to pay the dentist the money I owe him.'
