Your thoughts on Hal Lindsey

Your thoughts on Hal Lindsey? He is now returning to TBN but recently left TBN because they were trying to censor his messages. Saying he was too pro Israel and to anti muslim. All Hal Lindsey was preaching was about the end times and how bible prophecy is now coming into play. I applaud him for leaving TBN and not coming back until they stopped all this non sense of censoring his shows. They also sent letters to Perry Stone and John Haggue for being too pro israel on their shows.

I'm reading Hank Hanegraaff's The Apocalypse Code right now....which is decidedly against the thoughts that Hal Lindsay puts forth in his own book Apocalypse Code. I tend to lean towards Hanegraaff's thoughts in thinking that these guys are caught up in sensationalism, and focus to much on Israel the nationality instead of spiritual Israel.

I'm still learning though....but these are my thoughts so far.

I do not follow Lindsey, nor am I particularly acquainted with his views on Israel. But how is it that someone whose earlier writings, like "Late Great Planet Earth", which so obviously missed the mark, is still listened to at all?

When will we learn not to read present history into the apocalyptic imagery of the Bible? And when will we learn not to make a pastiche of Bible verses from here, there, and everywhere, ripping them from their historical and literary contexts?

Both of the above mentioned people are milking the cows "for all they are worth." Sheisters.
Yeah, author a book about the end times "The Late Great Planet Earth" and make a few Mill $'s and then you are an expert on prophesy. He was the LeHay and Jenkins of the 70's. :tonofbricks: I'll stick with John's view thank you.

Wa-aall, at 78 he is getting to be a little "long in the tooth".
I just hope I make it to that long, myself.
Theologically, as with most of us, when it comes to prophecy, I have
yet to find anyone who is batting 1.000, as they interpret Scripture.
Hal Lindsey ain't one of 'em, either.
And I'm sure most would add EdSutton, as well, were I so engaged.

I like Hal Lindsey and John Hagge.
I do not care much for TBN.
None of them will get a dollar from me
unless I get something of value from them.

When will we learn not to read present history into the apocalyptic imagery of the Bible?

You do realize, don't you, that at some point in history prophesy AND current events will coincide?

I personally think that it's looking like a head-on collision in the not-too-distant future.

Well, we could debate that, but I don't think I really want to take the time to do it right now. The point I was making is that Lindsay, like so many others of the same stripe, has managed to see the events of the 20th Century as coinciding with prophecy, as he understands prophecy. The trouble with that is that a host of others in past years have done the same thing; the myopia of the present circumstance.

I have never figured out what his message or emphasis is about.

Lindsey seems to enjoy making failed predictions and going overboard in re-writing Bible prophecy to point to God wanting to create a nation of Israel that is not following the Messiah.

Hal Lindsey and all end-of-the-world writers like him are proof that “nature abhors a vacuum.”

The particulars about how the world will end are unknown. But, human nature being what it is, we don’t want to take “We don’t know” for an answer.

Thus, when a well spoken person comes along with an apparent ability to connect-the-dots people will glaum onto what he says because no one else offers an acceptable alternative, and the truth - that it cannot be known - is not what they want to hear.

Christ spent a lot of time in Matt 24 and in Rev and in Daniel and elsewhere telling us how the world ends. There is no excuse for ignoring the details he has given.

Furthermore in Rev He pronounces a blessing for those who read and understand the keys to the book.

Hal Lindsey simply exemplifies the lengths that people can go to in "making up stories" in the case of those who do not appreciate or understand the keys in scripture given for interpreting Bible symbols.

Furthermore the PTR theory has its own "red flag" telling the reader that it is in error - as it "slices and dices" the most significant messianic numeric timeline prophecy (the 490 years) into bits and pieces and inserts "gaps of unknown time segments" into it "at will". It is another example of an atrocious story-telling model that no numeric timeline prophecy in all of scripture could survive.

Why people don't take the obvious path of leaving scripture in tact on this one is beyond me.

in Christ,

Bob

Hal Lindsey has been married four times!

Would this bother any of you if this was true about your pastor, deacons,SS teacher?

Was Hal Lindsey divorced from all three of this wives? Is Lindsey divorced from three of these wives or was he made a widower from any of these marriages?

I agree with BobRyan " Why people don't take the obvious path of leaving
scripture in tact on this one is beyond me."

I should have proof-read my post!

Shame on me!

I think, that we should be as the Bereans. Paul exhorted them to search the Scriptures for themselves to see if what he was teaching and preaching lined-up with the Word of God.

So when we read say Lindsey for example, if he says something that is in agreement with the Word then we can agree with what he has said or written.

The Bible should be our first and final source.

Never heard Lindsay preach, but what I've read of his I think belongs in the 'fiction - Fantasy' section of the library rather than the "Theology' section

I listened to Hal Lindsey's radio program on Saturdays a lot back in the 1980s-1990s. His teaching is basically a very good example of pop eschatology. It appeals to the masses but, as an amillennialist myself, I have never bought into his teaching on eschatology.

Ken -

We have been debating the definition of amillennial lately.

Ed Edwards (Pre-Mill ) has an idea that amillennialists believe in a literal 1000 year millennium.

can you confirm or deny that for us?

in Christ,

Bob

As I understand amillennalism the "millennium" covers the time from the cross to the end of this age. I guess one could describe this as being literal since real events have happened and are happening during this time frame.
