Your top three books of 2014 (other than the Bible)

What are they? I have a number of good reads this year some of which are as follows (in no particular order).

1. Respectable Sins--Bridges
2. Heaven and Hell--Edward Donnelly
3. 20 beliefs every christian should know-- Grudem
4. Find it quick handbook on cults and new religions-Ron Rhodes
5. Tell the truth-Metzger
6. The Grace ad Truth Paradox-Alcorn
7. The Way of the Master
8. Todays Evangelism-Reisinger

PS- If you do not like to read evangelism books, you read only the Bible and avoid other books please post another thread and do not participate in this one.

"Al Capone Does My Shirts" by Gennifer Choldenko. It's a historical account [yet the main character and his family are fictional] of the lives of the children who lived on Alcatraz in the 1930's because their fathers were prison guards. They are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Capone, Machine Gun Kelly, and more. While their lives aren't actually in danger, they must live by some staunch rules. It's written for older students, but it's good adult read, too. I read it in a day. The sequel is good, too.

"A Teenager's Survival" by Siv Ashley. It's a true account of a family in Cambodia prior to Pol Pot. They live a "Mowgli" type existence (in the jungle, pet elephant, pet monkey) and know no other. They are happy. Their father worships Bhudda. They've never heard the word, "Jesus". One day - the father does (and THAT account is amazing) and he and the family become Christians. Then comes Pol Pot. The torture and the hell is real and troubling to read. Siv, the daughter, is the only survivor. She is taken in by a family in the United States who wanted to help these survivors. She now lives in North Carolina with her husband and two children and writes and speaks about the miraculous salvation of her father and his never waiving faith that was the only thing that helped her to survive the horrors she endured.

My Three Most Influencial Books Read in 2014

The Bible Story Handbook: A Resource for Teaching 175 Stories from the Bible 2010 by John H. and Kim E. Walton

Highly recommended resource for teachers of the bible, from young children to adults. For each of 175 bible stories, the book provides main points of the story, the context, background that tells you about the time and place, interpretational issues and the common mistakes to avoid.

Suffering and the Goodness of God (Theology in Community Series) 2008, edited by Christopher W. Morgan

The multiplicity of authors not only provide different perspectives but also give different approaches on the purpose of our suffering. Bought it for a friend, kept it for myself.

The Bible Made Impossible: Why Biblicism Is Not a Truly Evangelical Reading of Scripture 2011 by Christian Smith

There are quite a few books like this on the market recently but this particular one changed the way I view biblical inerrancy.

Benefit Doubt Breaking Idol Certainty by Greg Boyd

Have Roger Olson's new book, The Story of Christian Theology; at went Centuries of Tradition and Reform but haven't got to it yet.

There were others, but those stood out.

That was not the focus of my research (“Live Long in the Land: Covenantal Allusions in the Seven Messages to the Churches in Revelation 2–3.”). But I did read the 4 views book too.

Like I said... proper etiquette. If you make a book recommend, especially to purchase, you link us to the place wherein we can find it and buy it! It is just due diligence. Just like when I cite my sources and bibliography in a research paper. It is what you do.
