Thank you, Brother Barnabas. Lovely job, mate.

Thanks to everyone for your kindnesses.

The one song I remember about sixpence goes:

I've got sixpence to last me all me life,
I've tuppence to lend, and tuppence to spend, and tuppence to take 'ome to me wife....it does go on in the same vein...

A sixpence piece in England was called a tanner, and hence my nick for the lad. I have several sixpences and decided to glue one to a photo, place in a frame and give it to mother for her nursery wall. For those uninformed, the sixpence is silver in colour and about the same size as a dime. Some people used a sixpence in the Christmas pudding. Supposed to be "good luck" to the one who gets it. We used a three pence piece. The posh used a Half Crown.

Cheers,

Jim

PS. This lad has a good set of lungs, I can tell you.

By the way, Bro. Jim, a sixpence is not a common coin. Did you know that the going rate of a 1588 Sixpence of Elizabeth I is over $450.00?! but your Sixpence (Tanner) is much more valuable - in fact, he is priceless! :)

I liked the song you quoted about sixpence.

My sixpence coins are dated 1961. They were common coin up to decimalization. It's value is 6 old pence, about 12 cents in our money. These might be worth money somewhere down the road. I have 65 three pence coins and they were selling on ebay for $2.67. The oldest coin I have is a 1919 penny. One thing about English money, it does have metal value by weight.

Cheers,

Jim

Cuz! You're leaving me in charge of what????? I could'nt quite understand you. :D

Oh No! My Cuz has lost her hearing!
This is terrible. How will she know when to turn the eggs or the bacon, or when to take the biscuits out of the oven?

Maybe we can get volunteers to help you cook. Perhaps you could use gestures to convey what you mean.

Surely you have some gestures that you use when cooking don't you? :saint:

Wouldn't you know? Just when we were going to tell MK how special she is, and how much we care about her, and what a fantastic cook she is...and she can't hear us.

Don't worry Cuz. Being the "Head Cook" in the CGCH is the equivalent of being the "Head Cook" at McDonald's isn't it?

Any other volunteers to cook since MK is incapacitated?

Good Morning Everyone!

Cuz, looks like the coffee house will be catering to the kids for the next week. Thanks Islandgirl!

Of course, Cuz, if you were to feel sorry for us and leave us a few meals in the freezer, I might be persuaded to get them out and heat them up.

Today is pool cleaning, housecleaning, homeschooling and church. Pool cleaning and housecleaning will be done simultaneously casue I have to shock the pool before I can vacuum it and then I have to determine if Chris and I actually fixed the leak or made it worse. You have to let the shock circulate for a bit, while that is going on I'll get started on the house. Chris has a bunch of independent stuff to do today so I can work while he works, instead of having to be right there with him to answer questions.

First I have to get these girls to school. :( I've been told to chill. Cass hasn't had enough time to primp and be sure her outfit is satisfactory.

Good morning all,

Glad someone is stepping up to cook while we're remodeling. I haven't even been cooking at home! It's been salads, sandwiches, or soup lately.

Today, I will paint Brent's bedroom. The hard part is moving all the furniture around and then back again...

Try to stay cool all! It's pretty impossible around these parts...

Good Morning Everybody,

It is 74 and overcast here, headed for a high of 82 with thunderstorms forecast for tonight.

Please pray for our friends in the South. They are having a monstrous heatwave right now. Scarlett, posting from Louisiana, last night said they had an actual temp of 106.

I agree with you Sue. There is nothing worse than heating the house up with the oven on a hot day. Sandwiches and salads just fit the bill when the temp is climbing. And yes dear friends I know how to make salads and sandwiches.:tongue3:

Cuz: I can put some meals in the refridgerator to help you out, but *sigh* they just won't have the magic MK touch.

Since it's closer to lunch than breakfast I brought in 7-Layer Southern Salad, Fresh Fruit Salad, and Grilled Pineapple for dessert. Enjoy.

Time to go out and check the garden.

Good Morning Everybody,

It is 76 and sunny here, headed for a high of 82.

Hope you're feeling better Gayla.

Please be careful in the heat Cuz. Heatstroke is sneaky...and dangerous. Thanks for breakfast too.

If you're having a heatwave Sue does that mean that I'll be getting the same within 24 hrs? Seems like we always get the same weather with just a short delay.

To everyone who is suffering in the heat: Please be careful and stay hydrated. You are priceless in God's eyes, and in mine my brothers and sisters. You are much too valuable to so many people who care about you.

Today is a couple of doctors appointments, and grocery shopping. I got the lawn cut and trimmed yesterday morning before it got too hot.

Unfortunately, the Automatic Grocery Replenishing System isn't working again so we'll have to go back to the manual setting. Funny how that thing breaks down so much. :BangHead:

Good morning folks! Hope every one is doing OK this fine morning. We had some excitement yesterday afternoon when our daughter let us know via email from the outskirts of Tokyo, Japan, that she woke up in her hotel room to a 5.4 earthquake. She went to Japan to study seismology and related topics first hand and was hoping to get a mild experience but it was too close to call. The epicenter was about 40 miles south-east from Tokyo. We also talked to her on the phone and she was exuberant about the experience. Thank God nobody was hurt and no property damages. Today she went on a bullet train ride for 12 hours to another area of the country where the earthquake episodes are more frequent. She will return to the US on the 27th and I can tell you Lenke and I are already anxious to see her on the ground at JFK when she arrives! :type:

Glad your daughter is safe and sound Barnabas.

It must be terrifying to be in an earthquake, even if, like your daughter, you know what to expect.

Were you affected by the tornado that reportedly hit New York City the other day?

I'm done, Cuz! The worst was having to sweep the grass off the sidewalk and the driveway because the blower wouldn't start and it was to hot to fool with it. I had figured it would be to hot to blow it off by the time all the grass was cut, so I was careful not to get much grass on the walk and drive to start with. Took less time to sweep it than it did me to figure out the blower didn't want to start!

It was 10:30 and 92 degrees when I got finished. Now I just have to get everything watered. I discovered yesterday that the azaleas that grow down in my backyard that I don't usually have to do anything with were actually wilted it's so dry. Got part of them watered yesterday. Hopefully I'll get the rest this morning, cause the huge juniper I have in the front yard that I just watered a few days ago is drooping again. I think it's water is being stolen by the sweet gum that grows just down from it.

Anyhow, the rest of the day will be filled with school, karate and sewing and all of those places are air conditioned! :D We may have a few extras at church today as we have been designated as a public cooling center for those folk who don't have airconditioning. I can't remember that happening in the 8 or so years I've been a member there (though we are a designated emergency shelter). This is hot even for Alabama where we expect it to be hot.

I did get some good news this month, despite the heat. Our power bill is down this month! This means the heat pump we invested in is doing it's job.

I gotta go!
