So the woman puts her hat on when she prays and takes it off during the sermon and singing?). I encourage all Christian ladies to wear a hat when praying as a sign of their submission to God's order.
Should a woman cover her hair in church? I guess is depends on how literally you want to follow Paul's instructions to the Corinthians. He clearly taught that they should have their hair covered. Does that apply to today's church? Or was he only addressing the New Testament churches? If he was only addressing them, then how literally should we take his other instructions? How can you tell if his teaching was for the NT church or the church of today?1Co 11:4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
1Co 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Co 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
1Co 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
1Co 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
Been tring to say that here for several years. No one will ever listen.Originally posted by SaggyWoman:
When I was in Athens this summer, we went to Corinth and looked at ancient Corinth. The headcovering issue was talked about, and it was stated that prostitutes shaved their heads. Many came to know the Lord, and Paul suggested to them to show that there was a change in their lives to grow their hair out. Thus the head covering.

Michelle, believe it or not, we are in agreement!Originally posted by michelle:
I have always understood the headcovering of the woman to be the hair. The natural hair, as this is to the glory of the husband, to which his head is to the glory of Christ. It seems to me, that what is being taught, is more that the woman should not shave her hair to be bald, or to be made to look like a man. WE are also told not to make a show of religion, by praying long prayers, and making a big outward showing of it, but to go in our secret place. In other words, God does not want us to show off, or flaunt our faith as this could be insincere. I can see how putting on a hat or covering of some sort, would tend to lead one to do this, as a religious show off. I have not been led to wear a head covering, other than having long hair covering my head.
Love in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour,
