What do you think causes Revival? Pick a certain day and call it a REVIVAL with Bro. Such and Such? Prayer for Revival can cause it? Something we do too? Thoughts?

J. Vernon McGee believed that revival came through teaching the word of God. I have often seen God at work through this manner.

We should always be teaching the Word of God. We should always be in prayer. It is not that we are doing something different from what we have been doing that "causes" revival.

Revival comes by the will of Holy Spirit. It is an extraordinary outpouring of Holy Spirit upon ordinary efforts by faithful Christians. The results of our efforts may be extraordinary, because of Holy Spirit, though our efforts remain the same as all faithful Christians.

It is a gift of God.

peace to you:praying:

Some thoughts:

I wish we would call it something else until the series of services is over, and we could see whether we actually had a revival. Let's not call it a revival in advance, before it actually is.

In additional to praying for revival during the time we've scheduled it on the calendar, let's also pray that God will pour out his Spirit this coming Sunday. Do we pray for revival because the date is near and thiis is the normal practice in your church. Or do we pray out of grief for sin and a heart breaking for the lost?

Shouldn't revival the the norm instead of the exception?

Have you pastors ever had an evangelist send you a to-do list weeks ahead, the idea being that if you follow the list, you'll have a successful revival?

Did any of you ever see the website of a famous Baptist evangelist who guaranteed conversions in his revivals? That guarantee is gone, thank goodness.

Revival is poured out, not worked up.

Good thoughts gang! Without prophetic vision people run wild, but blessed are those who follow God's teachings.

What I've seen best describes a real revival is when the Holy Spirit moves upon the hearts of God's people and they respond to the Spirit's beckoning to get things right with each other. Then sinners see the realness of fellowship and the Spirit has freedom to move in ways not before seen.

I was in one once when a family got right with another and the whole church was getting right with each other.

A brother was telling me of one in Easley, SC recently that had gone on for 8 weeks and over 120 people had gotten saved!

To God be the Glory, AMEN!

Will there actually be any revivals before Jesus returns? Jesus seemed to express doubt that he would even find faith when he returns:

"However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?" Luke 18.8b

It's part of the parable about the unrighteous judge and it is said by the judge, but it seems to be Jesus' point of the parable.

I see more and more churches compromising and getting wishy-washy rather than what most would term a "revival."

2Ti 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

That may be your experiences, but the church that had a true revival that I spoke of doesn't fit into the catagory you created. They are one of the strongest in doctrine I know.

I'm not really speaking of a 'revival' in a particular church but revival as it applies to Christianity in general.

I think what you described sounds more like a healing or reconciliation rather than revival.

Revival is the act of a sovereign God. He sends it as He desires to do so. I believe there are certain conditions that favor revival, i.e. prayer, confession of sin, repentance, a renewal of our love for the Word of God, but, we can do all of those things and still not experience revival and we can do none of them and God can pour out revival. It is solely up to God. Granted, we will have a better chance of experiencing revival when we pray, fast, confess, read and repent, but I don't believe that one can place God in a box.

Nope, it is still spreading, that is true revival.

All of Christianity falls into two catagories: Christendom and The Kingdom of Christ.

The KoC can have real revival, while Christendom will never see it.

This is due to Christendom being made up of carnality and entertainment, false doctrines and worldliness.

I believe you have just contradicted the sovereignty of God by implicating these conditions for Him to "pour out a revival", then you also make a contradiction to it as well in the following

Yet many do when they speak of His sovereignty. Not saying you did.

When we obey the Lord he blesses. His sovereignty has everything to do with his acting and our obeying, they couple together. Our disobedience hinders his will for our lives but does never effect his sovereignty in we never tell him what to do.

I think this is a false dichotomy. What is Christendom as you define it?

All believers are in the body of Christ and are in the Kingdom of Christ.

Where do the seven churches in Revelation fit?

Biblically and historically, revival always follows repentance and prayer by God's people.
