Retirement Medical

Your reasoning is faulty if you think that healthcare will automatically be lower, simply because a government monopoly is created.

It may be higher, but I expect for the average person it will be lower. If the system is not changes there is no doubt that it will be higher each year ... if history means anything.

Are you able to pay $10,000 a year?

A current estimate is that a man needs $177K in savings and a women $221K (median drug expenditures) to meet costs over and above Medicare covered costs if they retire at age 65 without employer provided coverage (increasingly the norm). This is $400K per retired couple just for medical costs! Most Americans won't have that much in total savings for retirement. Where are you assuming these additional savings would come from?

Well, I don't know about you, but I plan on doing the most Biblical and Christian thing to do - I plan on stealing money from other people to fund my retirement health insurance, especially money from bad rich people. After all, it's what Jesus would do, right?

He pulled them out of his fevered imagination.

What is your estimate? I need to find out the source but the message is plain to me. Medical care is actually a problem for everyone. I put a fairly large amount into health care savings every year and have fairly good company provided medical insurance but all of my health care savings goes into deductibles, co-pays, etc. My advice to younger people is to max this out early while you don't have health issues.

Companies will pay for your retirement medical if that benefit is still in your current union contract. <G>

That's true. Top management and union workers have contracts which the company is obligated to meet. Lower to middle level management and professional people don't have contracts and the company can cut them off at will.

Unless the company goes bankrupt, like GM, and then benefits will be cut for current retirees also.

Now, as the nation’s largest automaker filed Monday for bankruptcy protection, Jones will be relying on his pension to stretch farther still. He and 485,000 other retirees and their families face cutbacks in health care coverage, including the elimination of dental and vision care and an increase in prescription drug costs. The cuts were included in a contract between GM and the United Auto Workers (UAW) that was ratified last week.

Sure, until the union's greediness and the associated legacy costs (coupled with irresponsible management) run the company in the ground.

Exhibit A: American car manufacturers.

Didn't work that way when the phone company monopoly was broken up...

First of all, we are talking about a government that paid $5K for hammers years ago. This is a government that has funded the daylights out of FEMA, but can't manage to get ice to residents that need it following a hurricane. I doubt they'll be any more efficient.

And cost, though important, ain't everything. If my costs are cut by 50%, but I get the quality service I've seen at some nursing homes for medicaid folk...no thanks. Of course, I'm simply supposed to "trust" our fearless leaders. No thanks, again.

You know what? If I have to, then I will. I'm not far from that amount as it is...but I have good insurance. Besides...it is my responsibility to take care of me and my family, not yours. Likewise, it is not my responsibility to take care of people who are capable of handling their own affairs.

Last week, we had a lady come by our church for food. We gave her some (she had kids with her). More specifically, she had three kids, and was pregnant with a fourth. Even more specifically (a sister church had been trying to help her), she had three kids by three different fathers (unsure about the one in the oven). And finally, she had been set up with two different jobs from members at this sister church...only to walk away from them less than two weeks in at either job. I don't mind helping the kids...but it irks me that I will pay, either way we go, for her healthcare (and trust you me...I'll pay more under Obamacare for folks like her...because she's a locked-in Democrat vote, and those votes must be purchased).

Folks like her is one big reason I don't forsee a cost savings. People like her, illegal immigrants, folks who are lazy, folks who are legitimately impaired, folks who cannot find a job, folks who will not find a job, and all other categories....the cost will be driven up precipitously.

Insurance is quite abused. It was never intended that insurance soak up all the risk but that is how we treat it. So the result is high premiums.

As is written in scripture....................

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

"41Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

Which side do all of us want to be on?

Unions are destroying America by making us noncompetitive in the international market. My company just made a deal with a union that provides them with better health care than management (people with MBA's. MS Eng., Lawyers, etc.). How is that fair or competitive?

Justchristian, Freedom, whatever other alias you have used: you really should try to change your writing style if you think that you are going to fool anyone.

Let's start an over/under pool to see how long before Justchristian, Freedom, alatine, etal. gets banned yet again.

Just can't address my points can you? Ignorant people resort to ad hominem arguments because that's all they have.

What makes you think that I care at all about what a deceiver has to say about anything? On any topic? At any level? At any time?

CTB, do you remember what Paul said about he who doesn't provide for his family? How 'bout for him who doesn't work?

Try and use Scripture contextually, hmmm?

If you had bothered with any comprehension (you didn't), you would have seen that my issue is with providing for those who are able to provide for themselves...but don't.

How many people that would be benefited by a more efficient health care system are able to work but don't? Remember it was that "liberal" Bill Clinton who imposed a work requirement on welfare.

Once again you take hyperbole to new heights!

No, she didn't. Any man who believes it is okay (and votes that way) to leave live born babies to die on piles of dirty laundry has no qualms about euthanasia for the elderly.

Here's what he said:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalp...tly-if-we-start-making-changes-right-now.html

Do you think I believe him? Not for a minute! He is a liar and deceiver and has no credibility. He even lied to those who voted for him by saying they wouldn't be taxed. Already, he is taxing their cigarettes. (the poor suckers who bought into his hyperbole). He is a liar. And a murderer. Proven by his own track record.

"Health insurance" IS NOT INSURANCE. It doesn't meet any insurance principles. It is pre-paid medical service.

"Health insurance" started out as a way to get around a wage and price freeze. Company group policies were written as "major medical policies." Only thing covered was accidental injuries, hospital admissions, and the "seven dread diseases." People were expected to pay for their own routine stuff.

The companies offered the new benefits to attract new workers at a time when labor was scarce (world war 2). Policies were written on the assumption that a large work force would be statistically healthier than the general public. Pre-existing medical conditions were excluded. Group Policies were written so they either included pre-existing pregnancies or the current pregnancies to term for existing employees who quit but not both.
