I agree Rev, but I would take it a little further. Libbies don't like anything from the Bible they cant take out of context and try to mis-apply it.

Who are "libbies?" Is it either Christian or democratic to put a large group of people into one group and assume they are all alike?

Jesus did. He even called a group "vipers." :wavey:

Actually the people he called vipers were the most fundamental of the fundamentalists of his day.

Matthew 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

Matthew 12:24-33 24But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."

25Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

29"Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.

30"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. 31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

33"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

No one would ever call the Pharasees liberal. That would be a very liberal interpretation of scripture and of the culture in Israel at that time. Pharasees were conservative elders of Judaism.

The Pharisees were the elite. And they denied the deity of Christ. You are being silly. There was nothing conservative about them. And you have been challenged on this before. You are the one who judges our charitable giving, you and your buddy JustChristian/Freedom/Alatide, and that action alone gives you more in common with the Pharisees than your make-believe examples.

Your liberal side is showing ... trying to make the Bible say what it does not say .... trying to make Israeli culture of that day say what it did not say nor believe.

The Sadducees were more conservative than the Pharisees, there is no question about that. But no one who looks at the teachings of Jesus against the teachings of the Pharisees would call the Pharisees liberal. You can do this only by ignoring what the word conservative really means.

I find it quite interesting when you who call yourselves conservative or fundamental become very liberal in supporting your own beliefs by twisting the Bible and the culture of that day and time.

Conservatives out give liberals from their pockets continuously. If liberals would put their money where their mouth is then there would be less poverty in the world.

You obviously don't understand that CTB is correct and you are wrong. The Pharisees were like the fundamentalist religiously. They were wrong. Politically they were like the conservatives, and they were wrong here also.

I strongly advocate finding and using a financial planner to help you get started. I retired (well, officially, but I still work!) five years ago from my pastorate, and of course did not expect the church to continue medical coverage. My financial planner worked with my wife and me, reviewing our medical history to estimate what kinds of supplemental care we would need, and steered us to a company that provides a per diem for post-hospitalization home care. Thankfully we have not needed that, but one never knows.

Essentially all supplemental policies are the same, under legal mandates, but there are some extras that some can offer.

Along the same line, our planner helped us think about investing in a relatively safe way so that our savings could be at least conserved and probably grown.

You obviously understand with all correctness that you are right. The Pharisees were as lost as the day is long and had progressed the law into distortion. They were quite liberal.

I doubt anyone on the board would say the Pharisees were saved. But it is extremely liberal or ignorant to try to pass them off as liberals in their day and time. They would have considered Jesus a radical liberal for evening talking to the woman at the well, allowing a woman to wash his feet, etc. Please do not try to liberally twist the Bible to say what it does not say.

They were the ones that doubted scripture, they were the judgemental, they thought they were better than anyone else, they constantly conspired to trip up Christ with his own words.....

If they were around today, they would have jobs at MSNBC. Trying to paint them as conservative is just ridiculous. It's the conservative Christians that cling to scripture, unquestioningly.

I'd like to see you explain why.

I just noticed the same folks that tell us women preachers are fine, and that John the Baptist wasn't alive when he felt the Holy Spirit are telling us not to "liberally" twist scripture.

It is a joke.

They did not doubt scripture. Remember there was no New Testament when Jesus was alive. They were literalist. The had to memorize the first 5 books of the Bible ... I believe it was the first 5.

Wrong again. They would be staunch Fox watchers. And they, because you have not memorized large portions of scripture would consider you non-religious, someone not to be talked to except to put you down.

You are right in that they believed, just as most fundamentalists believe, that they had the truth and were better than others who did not believe nor act as they did. Also just like conservatives and fundamentalists they were legalistic.

Trying to say that the Pharisees were liberal is like saying Rush Limbaugh is a Communist. It just ain's [sic] so. You gotta live with it unless you want to continue your liberal interpretation.

Another thought that just occurred to me, if my interpretation was the liberal one, then it stands to reason the liberals would agree with it.

CTB, this is a stupid argument. Think what you want to.

It is liberal in the sense that you are trying to force the Bible to say what it does not say. You are trying to force a view of that society that simply is not true.

Now, you can continue to believe as you want. But you are wrong and the view you are expressing will always be wrong.

Nough said.

The Pharisees were the MOST CONSERVATIVE group in Israel in Christ's time. It's utterly preposterous to call them liberal. The definition of a liberal is someone who wants to change the status quo. A conservative is someone who wants to preserve it. Not in a political sense of course but in general, Jesus Christ was the most radically liberal man in all of hisatory.

Getting back on topic, I have always thought it would be cheaper to let people participate in tax-free medical savings accounts, but the liberals in charge would never allow it. They want to be in control, they want to make the decisions, and horde the best care for themselves, kinda like the Pharisees.
