Socialism doesn't work: You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.
That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.

The OP is an urban legend, and not a true story. However, it makes a point that has the ring of truth.

Whether socialism works is less of a concern to me than whether socialism is appropriate. Most would agree that socialism is generally not appropriate, regardless of whether it works or not.

So it's inappropriate and it doesn't work.

In your opinion, what should we think of those that advocate it?

It may or may not be however that is irrelevant nor was it the point.
The scriptural admonition of refraining from gossip dictates that denoting the OP as such is prudent, lest someone falsely accue you or anyone else in this thread of fostering rumors.

I desired only to denote the general inappropriateness of socialism. I leave it to others to opine over what to think of those that advocate it.

Wow, talk about condescending. Since this is an open forum, all are welcome to respond with concerns. If you have a problem with that, feel free to take it up with a moderator.

Condescending was you repsonse as if you were needed. And then to fain concern for the way it would be taken.

I fail to see any reason for you getting bent out of shape simply because I noted the OP is an urban legend.

Be careful assigning emotion. You do not have enough information about me to know that. And my real concern was your second post not your first.

The point is you posted an untrue legend as truth. Hardly honest. Every economic system has its strengths and weaknesses. From all your earlier posts I am not sure you understand the difference between socialism and communism. Also, I am not sure you understand pure capitalism.

Maybe I should find some urban legend to post as truth also.

I missed the part where you proved that this is an urban legend.

How is it that you get to criticize the originator of this thread without proving that first?

I did not post anything as truth. This story has been around for a long time and its source is unknown. If I wanted to post it as truth I would have linked it to the source. I made no claim to the story being true therefore it should not have been taken in that manner. That much is obvious.

Bold for emphasis not so one cam imply a specific emotion.

No point in wasting your time with dishonest posters. They are best left ignored.

Depends on the size of the group

Most families are communistic. Many social organizations are socialistic, Moose, Masons . . . . Socialism worked well in the Scandinavian countries until the EEC and their population was diluted with aliens. Religious orders are communistic.

I could not find documentation that it is an urban legend. Perhaps you can provide a link. Whether or not this is an urban legend has no bearing on the theory behind the story.

Perhaps we should start a thread about socialism, communism, and capitalism. Care to do that, Crabby?
