"Spiritual Formation"

The connection is that the emergents have grasped at whatever straw may be floating by in the winds of doctrine.

Yes, but the discussion on emergent and JohnV's church is taking away from info on the contemplative spirituality and spiritual formation, imo.

Point taken. It should be noted that "emergent" and "contemplative prayer" and "contemplative spirituality" are not necessarily synonymous with each other. Each church which has emergent customs should be judged on its own merit, just like each church that uses any other customs or practices should be judges on its own merit.

No, they are not necessarily synonymous (I am not discussing emergent here btw), but there is a movement that one can call contemplative prayer and contemplative spirituality that is mystical, from Eastern religions mainly via the Roman Catholics Church and it is infiltrating evangelical churches.

Please look at articles on my site that give evidence for this. I get emails all the time from evangelicals concerned about this infiltration in their church today.

I have given workshops on this topic and been interviewed on the radio. Including that with my research, reading, and writing on this topic, I have probably spent a few hundred hours on this topic.
