There is a very high probability that a woman doctor saved my life. Thanks Doc. ... and I have thanked her.

For surgeons, I want the best regardless of gender.

To generalize women tend to have better small muscle dexterity and thus may well make better surgeons, especially neurosurgeons.

This must be one of strangest conversations I've seen around here lately. And that's saying something...:D

So, are you guys comfortable with your wife/girlfriend/mother/daughter/sister seeing a male doctor?

Yeah, I guess you could call being able to walk upright without excruciating pain "pleasure". I tend to think of it more along the lines of being able to manage my pain and nerve issues so that I can live a normal life.

And, just so you know, a doctor does far more than just give shots. If all he did was give shots, then I wouldn't have to wear that little gown when I go to see him.

But thank you for not attacking my children this time.

It isn't so much a matter of being "comfortable" as it is just recognizing that it may not be wise.

    Yes.

Are you saying you do not trust your wife, your mother, etc.?

You have to turn this issue around this way. Yes, I'm fine with it, especially for general illness. I would obviously be okay with it for serious procedures.

That being said, my wife prefers going to a female doctor for female issues, which I completely respect.

You know the story of the guy who was attacked, robbed, beaten, and left for dead on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho? It's a good thing it was only a dirty Samaritan who stopped to help him. If it had been a woman he probably would have said "No thanks, ma'am, I'd die first!"

Taking tongue out of cheek now.

No and neither is she. We are careful not to let that happen

Okay, I undrstand personal preferences and have no problem with that.

But why pray tell, would anyone be opposed to opposite gender physicians as a general rule?

I was thinking the same thing. I know our old friend Spamderson said that all male gynecologists were perverts. Personally, I prefer a man gynecologist because the 3 women I went to were horrible and nasty. The men have all been wonderful and listened to my opinion and worked WITH me. My doctor now is like a dad to me - he's a wonderful sweet man who takes care of the women from our crisis pregnancy center for free if they have no insurance. He's in his late 70s and not planning to retire anytime soon. I love that man as does my husband. He's saved my life more than once.

A masseuse is quite different from a doctor and if you feel that they are the same, then your doctor or your masseuse is doing something wrong. Yes, even a deep tissue massage is pleasure. I have to say that I've never gotten out of a doctors feeling the same way as I do coming out of a massage.

As for the comment on your children, I seriously think you're 5 years old. I'd like to see where I attacked your children since you are bringing this up for some stupid reason. Your children are fine. Their father? Not so much.

Actually, I never said they were the same thing.

Annsi, I'm praying for you and especially for your husband.

Because that response was both affirming and necessary...

Maybe its time you took a step away from the keyboard.

No, I don't think so. I realized right away that responding to her rude words in kind was wrong and I immediately edited my post. Do you think she'll edit her post?

Up until about ten years ago, there were no female gynecologists in my area. For decades, we had no choice but to use a man.

When he, (my current doctor) or any other doctor that I have seen, is performing an exam, there is always, WITHOUT fail, a female nurse in the room standing by his side. I'm sure that this would be the same procedure with a female proctologist and her male patient.

Now that I have a choice between a male and female doctor, I am content to keep the male. I have seen more than a few over the years, and the one that I see now is HIGHLY respectful of me and my opinions and listens to me as if I am the only patient for the day. Have we disagreed on things? Yes. Is it still embarrassing to see him after all these years? Yes. It would be uncomfortable and embarrassing if it were a female doctor or a robot doctor or even a doctor who was a clone of myself!

But he is a Christian man who respects his field and his patients.

I think that each person has the right to make that decision for him or herself about which doctor that they see.

A woman doctor couldn't do any worse than some of the male doctors I've had, or should I say QUACKS?
