Sorcery & Games

Are you serious? Therefore all pharmacists shall have their part in the lake of fire?

I am serious in the sense that if HankDs reasoning is sound, then mine is as well. Of course, my conclusion is so absurd (although some people really do believe that modern medicine is sorcery in the Biblical sense) that it illustrates the fallacious nature of HankDs reasoning.

whew, had me worried there for a second. Not that it would offend me. But serve to illustrate the need to sound judgment in the interpretation of Scripture.

Sports or games can be just as bad. Some folks spend thousands of dollars and countless hours of time watching sports or playing silly games that do not profit us one bit.

Now, I'm not saying it is wrong to watch an occasional football game or movie on TV, but if that is all you do then you have been overcome by it. You are every bit as addicted as a heroin addict.

.

As long as people are consistent. I have witnessed where people pick and choose what they rail against (sports if often a target), while at the same time see some of the same people spend more time and money on things such as hunting, fishing, collecting antiques, scrap booking, sewing and or quilting etc.

As far as the heroin comparison, I wouldn't agree. Heroin is a mind altering drug which is wrong for other reasons, and physically addicting to the body rather than emotionally as what you are describing.

I certainly agree that heroin or any drug addiction is much worse than sports or games, but they serve the same purpose, to take our mind off God and the serious issues of life. I agree that hunting, fishing, shopping and many other activities can fall under this.

I think activities like this can work much like a drug. A drug of course will physically alter the mind and give a person a false sense and feeling of well being. But activities can be very much the same, they distract many people from thinking about God. I actually believe some people knowingly and purposely distract themselves with entertainment and other activities to keep their mind off God. Many people are in fear of God and judgment.

But a sorcerer is one who purposely uses magical arts to influence control over others. Somebody said Mickey Mouse is not a sorcerer, but I believe he is. I believe the entertainment business understands quite well that entertainment is a form of fantasy and distraction. This is not all bad, we shouldn't be constantly focused on the negative issues in life. Even the Lord took the disciples into quiet places at times to get away from the pressing crowds and work of the ministry. People need to relax and rest at times. But when it takes up all your time and money a person has been overcome and in a sense addicted.

The same can be said of forums on the internet.
