No, the scriptures do not teach a man is unable to repent, they teach repeatedly that some men REFUSE to repent. And Jesus told why, because they love darkness (sin).
Matt 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Their love for sin is the REASON they cannot. They WILL NOT because they CAN NOT and they CAN NOT because they love darkness rather than light.
They cannot same reason I CANNOT eat hot coals.
Jesus said here that he often wanted to save the Jews but the "would not".
This verse is non-sensical if Calvinism is true. First, how can Jesus expect the unregenerate to come to him? God would know they were not regenerate and could not possibly come to him. Did Jesus forget they were unregenerate?
God does not wish that any perish. But he allows them to for the greater good. The greatest good in the universe is NOT the salvation of a soul. The greatest good in the universe is NOT centered upon man. The greatest good in the universe is the glory of Christ. Sin and evil and hell are all things that God does not like in and of themselves but are necessary evils in order to MANIFEST God's grace and mercy and holiness and wrath. They are necessary in order that Christ might die as a lamb and be praised forever for so doing.
So Christ WOULD gather them under his wings- but they would not. They would not because they will not come to the light because their deeds are evil.
Christ will save WHOSOEVER cometh to him. But they do not come until he gives them a new heart.
If God chose to pass by these unregenerate man, then why does Jesus say he often tried to gather them as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings? That makes no sense, because according to Calvinism God does not want to save them, he has chosen to pass them by.
The invitation is to all. The only ones who accept it are the ones who God gives a new heart.
Now, if they could come, but refused of their own free will, then this verse makes perfect sense. If Calvinism is true, this verse is ridiculous and makes no sense at all.
This narrow and illogical thinking is what keeps you in darkness on this matter.
