John 20:31 is a passage you like to use to prove that faith precedes regeneration.
I contend that this verse does NOT necessitate faith before regeneration.
A baby lives before it breathes but it must breathe in order to live.
That is all this verse is saying. Faith is necessary for spiritual life. That by believing you might have life- that by breathing the baby might have life.
If breath is necessary for continue life yet life preceded breath why can not believing be necessary for continued spiritual life yet spiritual life preceded believing?

The Gospel is most certainly something of the Spirit of God. The Gospel is the EXACT thing that Paul is talking about in I Corinthians 2 when he said the natural man cannot receive it.

In chapter 2 Paul is talking about his spirit anointed message that it was not given in the power of the flesh but in the power of the Spirit.

He calls it in verse 1- the testimony of God

In verse 2 he speaks of the subject matter that singularly consumed his message- Jesus Christ and him crucified.

In verse 4 still talking about that same Gospel message he tells them his proclamation of it was not in enticing words of man's wisdom but in power and demonstration of the Spirit.

This message is called the wisdom of God in verses, 6, 7 and 8.

He follows this same topic through verse 13 where he says, "Which things we also speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual"

Still talking about the Gospel, the testimony of God, Jesus Christ and him crucified, the wisdom of God he says in verse 14

"The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him; NEITHER CAN HE KNOW THEM, because they are spiritually discerned."

This is the Gospel which natural man CANNOT know nor receive.

Paul had already said this very thing earlier using the same language in 1:18

Salvation is the same throughout the Bible. Evidence for that is given by Paul in the example of Abraham. See the fourth chapter of Romans.

He was justified in the sight of God, and it was by faith. Salvation/regeneration come at the same time as they did with Abraham. A study of Romans 4 gives clear evidence of that.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. (Romans 4:3)

It does not have to say "ye might KEEP life" to mean it any more than it has to say "that breathing ye might KEEP life" to mean it. Just so, it can say "that believing ye might have life" and we still understand perfectly that believing is necessary to sustain life even though life existed before believing.

There are too many verses that indicate that it requires spiritual life to believe for that passage to be interpreted any other way.

No. The Philipian jailer was still lost but God had given him a new heart whereby he sought the Lord to be saved. God had replaced his stony heart with a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 11:19

Ezekiel 36:26
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

This is necessary if ANY are to be saved.

The 'world' meant here is not the human race in general. This is the 'world' that Christ is referring to:
Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing. Jn 18:20.

To paraphrase the 8th verse:
When the Spirit comes, He will convict the Jews of the judicial murder of Christ, and will declare Christ to be righteous in that God has raised Him from the dead, and will pass judgment upon this generation.

Read, listen, hear the Spirit convict the apostate ecclesiastical system of the Jews, through the testimony of His witnesses, of the murder of the Righteous One, and declare Him indeed to be righteous. 32 And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Acts 6:
8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people.
9 But there arose certain of them that were of the synagogue called the synagogue of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake.
15 And all that sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Acts 7:
51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye.
52 Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;
53 ye who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and kept it not.
55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
56 and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. Acts 7

Acts 10:
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree.
40 Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,
41 not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
42 And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

Acts 13:
16 And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken:
27 For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.
29 And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.
30 But God raised him from the dead:
31 and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses unto the people.
